Whats the point of inviting reporters into the Oval Office if they cant ask questions?
President Obama gave a statement to the press pool on Monday after talking with Australias prime minister, Julia Gillard. He spoke briefly about Libya, condemning the violence there again, and made no news.
Afterward, a handful of the journalists invited into the room shouted questions at Obama, as is customary in such situations. But Obama wouldnt bite.
Thank you very much, everybody, Obama said as the reporters clamored for an answer. Thank you guys.
They kept shouting. Thank you very much. Thank you very much, everybody, he repeated.
Thank you very much, everybody, he said again, flashing a toothy grin.
Then a reporter asked a question Obama didnt mind answering what his thoughts are on visiting Australia. Im looking forward to a return visit to Australia, he said, smiling. When he was in Sydney when he was 8, he said, everybody treated me wonderfully.
Then it was back to all right, thank you everybody.
Thank you, guys, he said as the reporters were kicked out.
I do too. Has this ever been mentioned before? Did he acknowledge the trip in either of his books? Perhaps there is a crack in the door . . . He would have been 8 in 1969 . . .
After all they have done for him, not even a reach-around. /Gunny Hartmann
Another candidate.
Matt, you ignorant slut.
“Speaking to the 7:30 Report’s Kerry O’Brien at the White House, Mr Obama said he expected to stay in Australia for at least a “couple” of days so he can take Michelle and the kids to Canberra and Sydney.
“I used to travel through Australia when my mother was living in Indonesia and my grandparents were living in Hawaii,” he said.
“We’d usually go through Sydney and memories I have, not only of it being a beautiful country but of people being just wonderfully hospitable and kind to me, are ones that I carry with me.”

Thank you. That works for me.
Can u add to the title Obama says he was in Australia when he was 8?
There was documentation posted here perhaps within the past year suggesting he had travelled on his mothers passport until age 9 or 10. The document(s) demonstrated she applied for a passport that did not list him. Might have been associated with her shipping him back to HI. Someone who keeps better track of these things will know.
If he did not have his own passport at age 8, then he likely travelled to Australia with her.
He wants an adoring audience, not co-stars.

Thanks, TOL...entered it in Thursday’s primary.
Remember when 0h0m0 went to Japan and claimed he’d visited there and had “green tea ice cream” that didn’t exist actually at that time?
Who is he, Forrest Gump who happened to be everywhere at some point in his life?
So exactly when was the little bastard learning how to be an American?
And who was paying the freight for hauling his-self all over the world?
It would be interesting to know if at that time international flights from HI to Indonesia or vice versa normally stopped in Australia.
If they did stopovers in AU, I’m sure that little Barry has zero memory of anything in AU except the inside of an airport, much like any other airport.
Somewhere someone forgot to dot all the i's and cross all the t's. It's a question of who finds it!
First; it is always the 'me' word. . .was he traveling there solo per Australian visit? Does anyone inhabit Obama's world; his childhood; save it's most important character i.e. Obama himself. Unless, it's worth a mention for political gain story, that is. . .
Is a 'visited here with my family; and we were treated well' just Obama overload? Or better; forget the 'all about me' center of the world view and referencing and try. . ."visited here when I was eight; loved the people then - and still do".
That would be novel, of course; and would require considerations that are as alien to Obama as are Martians - to most of us/sigh.
Big smile; great; what lies behind it; pathetic - and terrifying by it's emptiness.
Further; his answer could as easily imply a 'couching' of something else Obama likes to do. . .'stick it to the USA home team.
So at eight; he already was taking note and remembering those places where he was 'treated nicely' and those where not. And if location is not quite honest; his sympathies could imply such. Even if 'unconscious' there could be slight here.
(So OK, America; we are not as nice as the Aussie's!) Good no one asked if Obama thought America should have an 'apology day'.
Of course, with Obama as President; most of Americans could not be more sorry.
Abused wife. . .or Stockholm Syndrome; they may as well be captives; because they certainly respond as such. They cannot roll over, fast enough; or often enough at Obama’s behest.
