Biden on trip to Moscow, Helsinki

Joe and Jill Biden have left the building.

The vice president and his wife are on the beginning of their trip to Finland, Russia and Moldova. They’ll be gone all week.

The White House attracted criticism at the end of last week as Republicans circulated a Washington Times story drawing attention to the timing of the Bidens’ trip — just a few days after the vice president had his first closed-door meeting with Republicans about the budget.

It wouldn’t have been unheard of for the White House to cancel the trip until the budget negotations were finished. President Obama canceled a trip to Asia and the Pacific last March so he could see the final passage of the health care bill, and he canceled it again in June amid the BP oil leak.
