Unions should have gone the way of the Pinto... The idea of government employee unions is simply absurd!
I can understand why private corporation unions have existed, but can NOT understand why government unions were ever allowed to happen. My guess, (actually, understanding), is that those government workers wanted more and those that they elected thought that it was a good idea to keep them happy.
All public unions need to be abolished!
Absolutely! Public employees work for the taxpayers, if they don't accept the pay and benefits offered they can get a different job, there's many waiting in line that'll take it.

I heard it was JFK who did this by executive order, as payback to the unions for their support in the close 1960 election. In NYC the city workers were allowed to unionize in 1963 and 12 years later the city was bankrupt.
