Indiana legislators have received thousands of letters and email messages from concerned teachers, principals and superintendents. Many are politically generated by special-interest groups. Most, though, are from dedicated educators whose passion for the classroom is made clear in every word.
Yet, I disagree with almost all of their conclusions.
As a new member of the legislature, it surprises me so many of these writers, some personal friends, believe I would leave them vulnerable to an unfair evaluation system developed and managed by state bureaucrats.
I am working every day to keep that from happening.
Many express a fear that I would break the teachers union and end mandatory public-sector collective bargaining.
Yes, thats exactly what I would do, what we should have done. Theres no good reason for public-sector unions to exist - for teachers or for students.

If you're going to mess with somebody, the end result needs to be that he's unable, or too terrified, to counter-attack.
The problem is that establishment Republicans, such as Mitch Daniels, are on the same side as the enemy. Let’s see, that would make them ... also the enemy.
I used to tell my kids to stay out of trouble and avoid fights, but if you can’t, make it count. More than likely you will be in trouble whether you start it or not. But at least you will have hopefully cowed a bully.
Picking these fights when you don’t intend to win them just leaves us worse off. Caving or failure only emboldens your adversary. If Walker caves in Wisconsin we’re gonna have a purple shirted mob living in every state capitol and county seat.
‘They’ said when we have teacher’s unions, we will have better teachers.
‘They’ said when we allowed gambling casinos, that the tax on the casinos would fully fund all our schooling needs.
The teachers have not improved, the students are more ‘educated’ in liberal politics than in math or grammar, and the politicians have spent all the money from the casinos on Vegas Vacations.
The Repubs should respond in Wisconsin by passing Right to Work, Voter ID, Constitutional Concealed Carry, and Stand Your Ground. And tell the Dems that maybe some of it would not have passed had they stuck around.
“The Repubs should respond in Wisconsin by passing Right to Work, Voter ID, Constitutional Concealed Carry, and Stand Your Ground.”
This is exactly what they should do. The Dems wouldn’t hesitate to do it to us were they in a similar situation.
Just got through to Gov. Walkers office and passed on the info. He said he would pass it on. I suggest everyone start calling and “passing it on”!!!
That's why it's wise never to mess with an old person. They won't fight back--they'll just shoot you.
