Budget Cuts: You know we're in trouble when the Senate majority leader says dealing with a $14 trillion debt might mean the end of cowboy poetry readings in northern Nevada.

When Harry Reid proposed that Nevada make prostitution illegal everywhere in his state, little did we know his backup plan for stimulating the Nevada economy was continued federal funding of cowboy poetry readings in northern Nevada.

Exhibiting the kind of leadership that's quickly becoming a national embarrassment, and that begs for a Republican takeover of the Senate in 2012, Reid took to the floor to lament that Republicans, through a "mean-spirited" budget bill, not only wanted to gut funding for National Public Broadcasting but also deprive Nevada and America of a rather unique cultural institution.

"The National Endowment of the Humanities," Reid said, "is the reason we have in northern Nevada every January a cowboy poetry festival. Had that program not been around, the tens of thousands of people who come there every year would not exist." The people would not exist? Oh, the humanity!

"These programs create jobs," according to Reid, who represents a state that's among the leaders in both unemployment and home foreclosures. Energy production is another job creator, but Reid opposed completion of the Yucca Mountain (Nev.) repository for spent nuclear fuel that could have spurred a nuclear renaissance. But poetry readings are fine.

The Democrats' complete lack of seriousness on the debt and the deficit was demonstrated when Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin insisted on "Fox News Sunday" that his party's proposed $6.5 billion in additional cuts (which the CBO says is actually closer to $4.7 billion) constitutes "the limit" of what Democrats would deem acceptable. This is unacceptable

GOP is a fake opposition party, bought and controlled by elite power brokers and Wall Street money!
It’s obvious, so nothing less to do than face the facts, and then respond effectively with Third party power!

I hope the people of Nevada are hanging their heads in shame for putting this idiot back in the senate. That said, if Reid thinks this is so important, he should fund it from the money he has made from all his questionable real estate and other deals. What a complete embarrassment.

Ha, ha, my thinking, too. Reid is such a dimwit. I guess those thousands of people would just vanish in a puff of smoke. Who knew a poetry program had that kind of power?

Government should not be in the arts and entertainment business. It’s not a legitimate function of government at any level.

And the present elite-controlled parties will?

Man-up buddy - we have serious corruption and treason in Washington DC. This country’s wealth has already be stolen.
Voting for, and supporting, the very same cardboard cutout politicians who have done this is not a very intelligent strategy to advocate or follow. IMHO
