Sen. Graham Wants Intel Chief Gone After He Claims Russia, China Pose 'Mortal' Threat

Published March 10, 2011 | FoxNews.com

A prominent Republican senator called on Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to resign Thursday after he said Russia and China pose the biggest "mortal threat" to the United States, stunning lawmakers on the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said it's time for Clapper to go after his testimony on Capitol Hill, but the White House said it has the "full faith and confidence" of the director.

Clapper, who just last month startled lawmakers when he claimed during a hearing that the Muslim Brotherhood is "secular," made the comments about Russia and China during an exchange with Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va. He was in the midst of testifying about global security threats when Manchin asked which country represents the biggest "mortal threat" to the United States.

With Repulsicans like this, who needs dim-bulb-crats.

Where in h*ll do we get such dweebs?

Graham, shove it up your smelly Obama, follow it, and don’t come out.

Evah!

They would be the two countries I would least want us to go to war with.

I’d say he’s right, in a way. To call them a “mortal threat” might be a bit much. We have thousands of ICBMS that keep us warm at night.

Clapper does not do a good job testifying, but the message, IMO,I think, is right on. Clapper and many other intel types who love the truth can verify the message in a dozen different ways.

“Levin, who seemed to be on the verge of laughing, said: “By that measure, the U.S. represents the biggest threat” to China and Russia. “

And I guess in November, 1941, Levin would have called the US the biggest threat to Japan...and what would he have then said on December 8th.

It’s very rare that Democrats take off their mask and actually say just what they believe (i.e., the US is the biggest threat to peace in the world), but he said it...and SURE AS HELL meant it, even if giggling.

Clapper is such a joke. I cannot believe he was promoted to the rank of Lt Gen in the US Air Force.

Any Intelligence Chief would even contemplate, much less publicly declare, that the Muslim Brotherhood was "secular" and not Islamic needs to be checked into a mental hospital.

And he's right, when you go by the definition of "mortal threat". A mortal threat is something that can kill the US as a functioning, independent nation.

Yes, Iran and North Korea have some crazies, and yes they may soon have the ability to deliver one or two nukes against a major US city. Then what? We annihilate them, pick ourselves up, and move on. It would hurt us much more than 9/11 did, but the US would survive and would continue to be a superpower.

Russia and China are a different ball game. They have enough nukes and conventional military to create a threat of the termination of the US as a functioning nation.

Yeah! He told the truth.

He’s a doofus, but even a doofus can tell the truth.

What if he’s right and the Obamanauts are sailing into deadly seas?

Hope he keeps on speaking truth to power.

Clapper gave a ‘worse case’ estimate and Graham didn’t like it. It should have been a closed session so that Clapper could have spoken freely without any senator tv grandstanding. And he was also right about China being our most significant threat.

“I’d say he’s right, in a way. To call them a “mortal threat” might be a bit much. We have thousands of ICBMS that keep us warm at night.”

Only if you sleep next to them. What makes you think they still work? We haven’t detonated a nuke in decades and their reactive cores change over age.

On top of that, you should replace ‘thousands’ with ‘hundreds’, since the RINOs allowed START-3 to get ratified in the lame duck.

Finally, the question, regarding mortal threat, isn’t what capability we may or may not have, it’s what capability our potential enemies possess.

The really SCARY part of this entire event is that we absolutely REFUSE to consider the capabilities of other countries. Mr. Clapper should be applauded for doing just that and answering honestly. I’ve been waiting DECADES for someone to point out the truth about China...I wrote my profile page (the part about China) six years ago, but have worried about China since about 1991.
