Just checked. Possible 3 feet or less in Los Angeles.

I’m going to work then.

Wasn’t there some predictions after the New Zealand quake that those countries would all be hit?

My son is in Hawaii on his way back from a deployment in Korea. They are on the beach and have been told to stay in their rooms on the 9th floor. Just the kind of wake up call a momma wants!

Really. I’m sure that sirens knocked a lot of people out of bed over there this morning. Good to hear that the word has been passed.

Reports from Midway Island were of a tsunami wave between 4.2 and 8.2 feet above normal sea level.... lasting for 12 minutes. No idea why the wide variation.

That would be severe for Midway. The highest point on the island is only 13 meters.

Even worse for Wake Island. The highest point there is only 6 meters.

Near the next full moon coming up it is supposed to be at its closest - and create the most extreme tidal stresses...

Someone posted that it will be on the 19th. Is that accurate as far as you know?

After Loma Prieta we had thousands of 1 and bigger for about three months. Several hundred that were 2 or bigger and 60 or so 4 or bigger. That was a 7.2 event. No real foreshocks.

According to this map, we've had 46 earthquakes in the past week. A 3.5 this morning and a 4.7 that we felt a week or so ago. Nothing by Japan's standards, but big enough and frequent enough to keep my attention since I work on the 23rd floor.
