The cattle need to be subjected regardless of whether it works or not. Tweak it later.

The article is useless without hard numbers.

The Fed limit on the scanners is 25 micro-rems per scan, the average actual readings were about 9 to 12.

Background radiation at sea level is 20, 40 microrems depending on where you are.

Radiation levels at over 22,000 feet are at least 200 microrem per hour, and can be as high as 750 micro rem per hour. You’d get 25 microrem (the max scanner dose) in way under 15 minutes of flight.

http://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/frame/radiation_profile.html

The link goes to a pilot dose calculator. Assume 30,000 feet, 20 minutes to reach altitude and descend, and you’ll get an idea of flight doses.

Surprise, surprise, the scanners may be overdosing the flying public with radiation.

Any Freeper physicians care to comment?

Right. And in the meantime, a guy using the title “Nuclear Energy Watchdog” is being interviewed on Dateline NBC about Japan’s nuclear sites. (I’m serious. That was what the text under his picture said.)

Not a fan of Dateline, Catastrophe can hit anywhere though. Expect it to be milked/slanted.

As discussed earlier, by, well, me, here:

The REM equivalents quoted by TSA likely greatly underestimate the damage done by the TSA scanning devices.

If the scanner is radiation safe, lets stick Janet Napolitatano in it for a half hour to be certain and REQUIRE all TSA employees to watch the whole show live over closed circuit TV. (Gag!)

I've been taking the car; I don't fly any more. I've taken the train, but if TSA screws this up, it's go by car.

Now if Obama wants to start limiting travel with domestic passports and highway checkpoints, say hello to Obama’s Soviet Union of States.

As much as I'd like to see DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano glowing in the dark and her TSA employees blinded by her inner radiance, that won't happen. Ergo, I don't fuel the beast.

I’d have gone with 15 hours. You are a much nicer man than I.

Love the graphic (copied it)... That’s been my choice for over a year now, and will be for the foreseeable future.

I bet 10 to 1 these TSA agents in about 10 years are all going to start dying from radiation. Remember they are standing around it all day. The only thing that stops radiation is Led. Heck a Dentist will give his or her patients a Led bib just for getting some X-Ray pictures.

The worst part about these machines is that the Department of Homeland Security head (Michael Chertoff) mandated it by the tax payers. Then he went over to the company that is selling it and became CEO. Must be nice to be on the government and mandate something, then turn around and sell it to the same government you mandated to buy it.
