WELLINGTON, New Zealand China has asked New Zealand to consider special compensation to parents of Chinese students killed in an earthquake last month because their loss was magnified under China's one-child policy. Seven Chinese students have been identified among the 166 confirmed deaths in the quake that devastated Christchurch city on Feb. 22, and as many as 20 are still missing.
Chinese Embassy official Cheng Lei said Monday that Chinese quake victims had lost not only their only child but also a future breadwinner.
He said New Zealand should consider providing additional financial assistance to those families.

Precisely.
I wonder if the Chinese government pay the parent for every child that is lost in China from natural disaster. If not, why NOT? Serious, what nerve of them to be asking this.
Truly Orwellian NewSpeak.
Agree with the above.
But really, NZ’s earthquake must be physically linked to Japan’s, even though they are so far apart.
Maybe California should be concerned.
Looked twice to make sure this wasn’t an “Onion” satire...
The thought occurs that it must be getting tough to be a satirist these days, as the ‘real’ world sets new heights of bizarre on a daily basis...
What moral responsibility do the government or people of New Zealand have for earthquakes? Or for Chinese government policies that wrongfully infringe the liberties of Chinese subjects?
where's my compensation? And who is it that's giving me money?
They kill their children. They want compensation when the survivors die. Holder hasn’t heard this $hit yet has he?
Well maybe Jintao should pay every Chinese family for every forcefully aborted baby killed by his own government.
Why would a government pay insurance benefits on such a natural disaster?
IMHO, it just makes the Chinese look stupid...
This is unbelievable gall on the part of the Chinese government.
They are a communist dictatorship, and their leaders decreed a one-child policy years ago. There have been some unintended consequences to their policy.
Now this communist government wants a capitalistic country to compensate them for alleged future losses.
I call BS. The state is supposed to wither away and all that. When the nirvana of pure communism is achieved, nobody will need money, because everyone will be working for the common good. By definition, a family will not have suffered any loss, per communist ideology, because the collective will take care of these families.
Has China fully paid off all of the countries that were given Chinese products, which contained poisons and lead?
This world is truly in the dumper.
The New Zealanders are responsible. Any time they admit a Chinese person to their country, they should realize that these people are the only offspring born to their parents and give them special protection. If you let them run around willy nilly, then you’re taking a risk. The NZ government should have foreseen this risk. It is obvious that when there’s an earthquake coming, you have to make sure the foreigners in your country are protected first.
And also, if New Zealand weren’t so negligent in preventing earthquakes, this never would have happened in the first place.
NZ should give China one zillion dollars for every person who died. Or, the finger, for trying to capitalize off of a tragedy.
Whichever.
This provides a very good indicator of the sort of people the US elites have chosen to provide such tremendous economic opportunity over the past few decades, which has also included priceless technology transfers to the Red Chinese, and decades of turned heads to the Chinese theft of intellectual property, industrial espionage, counterfeiting of US products, etc., etc.
Is this satire?
Obviously, the Chicoms should compensate the parents. It’s not NZ’s concern that the Chicoms pursued a demographically disastrous policy.
By making this request of NZ, the Chicoms are only admitting before the whole world that their policy was stupid and cruel.
Perhaps New Zealand should bar entry to Chinese citizens and deport the ones already there.
