Baby Joseph being put on the plane for transport to the United States
STATEN ISLAND, March 14, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Under cover of darkness, Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, arrived in Ontario, Canada, Sunday night to rescue Baby Joseph Maraachli from the London Health Sciences Centre. For two weeks, doctors at the hospital in London, Ontario, have been delaying the baby's transfer to a hospital where efforts to save his life will not be officially labeled "futile."
"I knew, after this dragged on day after day, that I needed to be here myself to get Baby Joseph to safety," said Father Pavone. "He needs to be in a hospital that cherishes life over the bottom line. After around-the-clock negotiations, this really became a race against time." Father Pavone was accompanied by Priests for Life staff, who were there to assure the transfer proceeded smoothly.
Baby Joseph and his father, Moe Maraachli, were flown with Father Pavone to SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo., on a specially equipped air ambulance provided by Michigan-based Kalitta Charters, and sponsored and paid for by the New York City-based Priests for Life.
"If there is a chance this boy can live, we have to explore every option," said Father Pavone, who was to arrive back home in New York earlier today after weekend speaking engagements in Cleveland. Instead, he flew to Detroit and then on to Canada, vowing not to leave the country until he had Baby Joseph and his father with him.
"Priests for Life staff toiled through the night for many nights, working in concert with dozens of people to make this possible," Father Pavone said of the nighttime rescue mission. "Now that we have won the battle against the medical bureaucracy in Canada, the real work of saving Baby Joseph can begin."
Father Pavone said Baby Joseph's transfer was accomplished through the efforts of a number of people, including his parents; family spokesman Sam Sansalone; family attorney Claudio Martini; Bobby Schindler of the Terri Schiavo Life & Hope Network, St. Petersburg, Fla.; Dr. Martin McCaffrey, a neonatologist at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Medical School; the Rev. Pat Mahoney, director of the Christian Defense Coalition in Washington, D.C., and attorney CeCe Heil from the American Center for Law and Justice, also in D.C. Father Frank also thanked the many other Canadian pro-life groups and individuals who have been consistent and heroic in their advocacy for Baby Joseph and for all the vulnerable.
"We are united across national boundaries to continue to work together for a Culture of Life," Father Pavone said.
SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center opened in 1956 and was named in memory of Cardinal John Glennon, Archbishop of St. Louis from 1903 until his death in 1946. The hospital was a fulfillment of Cardinal Glennon's vision of a health-care facility open to all children in need of medical care. The hospital is part of SSM Healthcare, which is run by the Franciscan Sisters of Mary. The system has 19 acute-care hospitals in Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin and Oklahoma.

just WOWSER! good news.
God bless this good man.
rescued from goverment misscare........and we who will come to rescue us? obamacaredeathpanels await us with no one left to rescue us......we will have to fight it now, before we get too weak.
God bless baby Joseph and God bless Father Frank!!!
Hooray! I’d jump up and cheer but my baby is sleeping next to me right now. I’m so relieved for this whole family!
God bless this priest. He has been a courageous fighter against the evils of abortion also.
The Canada “Death Panels” - coming soon to a neighborhood near us - courtesy of Obama.
This is a very emotional event. I’m so relieved for Baby Joseph. I’m also reminded how it felt to believe Terri was going to be rescued, and then find out it was just a cruel joke. If not for Terri Schiavo, I doubt anyone would have known how to save Baby Joseph. Until she was murdered with such public fanfare I would have never believed it could happen. Thank God for this miracle!
Do you have a ping list of death mongers, so we can watch them cry and curse the ground we walk on?
Wow. I’m overwhelmed. This is amazing! God bless Father Frank Pavone.
I second what you said.
God bless them all.
The past few days they have seemed more concerned about the fact that a LEGAL immigrant wasn't going to be starved and dehydrated to death by a PRIVATE hospital.
Joy at this news.
But how was this covert in any way?
There is nothing suggesting the baby was stolen or otherwise taken under false pretenses from the hospital.
I'm just so happy for baby Joseph and his family.
I think the covert nature was that Father Pavone just showed up with the medical jet and team and let them know that he wasn't leaving. The hospital probably never figured he would just arrive.
I know. It’s so simple and right. It never had to be what it became.
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: ~ Hbr 9:27
However, the culture of death's view is, "He's going to die sooner or later, why won't you just shut up and let us murder him now?"
It’s my understanding that their plans were kept secret until they arrived at the hospital to pick Baby Joseph up. If they had made their plans known ahead of time, the hospital would probably have continued to put up roadblocks. They probably would have gotten a court order preventing it.
There was a time when it would have been perfectly legal for Terri Schiavo’s family to rescue her. At that time, I’m sure they didn’t think such drastic measures would be necessary. They couldn’t have predicted that a tin pot judge would order her murder, and there wouldn’t be any way to stop it.
For now, those details have not been provided. Perhaps, over the next few days, more information on how the baby was removed form the hospital, will be released.
Surely even the hardest of hearts would melt at this story, and that beautiful picture. God’s work was done this day.
I don’t think they expected this either.
What baffles me—and probably always will—is the question of why they seemed to determined to kill this child in the hospital. What problem did they have with letting this child go home to be with his loving parents when his time came? Who would this hurt, and why did the hospital think it might hurt them?
Prayers for a safe trip, and for the hospital staff that is waiting for his arrival. And of course, for the precious babe and his family. :)
now maybe this family can focus on their son, not the deathsquad lurking outside his hospital room...
Thank You God!
This is Obamacare it was modeled after Canada
“...However, the culture of death’s view is, “He’s going to die sooner or later, why won’t you just shut up and let us murder him now?...”
RE “the Culture of Death”: People that foster this mentality are sick, psychotic perverts and lunatics, and they need to be removed from ANY positions of authority or power over the rest of us.
Fight them forever, until they go away.
He’s freed from the tyrannical Canadian court!!
He’s freed from the tyrannical Canadian court!!
Apologies for the duplicate post ~ anyway, it’ sounding like Baby Joseph
is breathing on his own or at least far more so than the Canadian hospital
His Dad had previously stated that his son was doing quite well in Michigan when he was receiving treatment.
Prayers that he begins to prove the death mongers wrong!
Great news! Thanks for update. God Bless Baby Joseph and Father Pavone!
I saw Fr. Pavone interviewed on FOX earlier today. Keep your eyes out for a replay of it!
He usually posts links at the Priests for Life website.
So it’s come to this: the vulnerable have to be spirited away “under cover of darkness” from The System, like Jews from the Nazis?
why do people keep repeating this miserable, defeatist dirge? The culture of death doesn't need to propagandize us with "the big lie," we do it ourselves.
be nice to see, on a "conservative" forum, more people saying, "over my dead f cking body!"
The parents discharged their child, against the advice of doctors at london medical. There is nothing more to it. The child has no brain function, he cannot survive. Torturing him further by performing a tracheotomy may extend his life, but does not extend his quality of life. Parents need to be able to make these decision themselves...I just think they are making the wrong decision...
A good point; alas the American people aren’t smart enough to figure out what they have done to themselves.
You appear to be a doctor in England?
I am not in doubt of the diagnosis, I DO object to the government making life and death decisions for this family. His parents accept he will die, his sister did indeed die of this same thing. They simply want to provide the loving care for him at home while the inevitable happens. Government health care insurance should NOT dictate to families how to live and die. It is insurance, help with medical bills. A trach is not that big a deal to allow them to let their baby come home to die in their loving arms.
I am sorry for your loss, but this is about getting out of this family’s face and letting them live out Baby Joseph’s days on this earth as they choose. You are absolutely right, there is nothing more to do, so get him home. The alternative is to kill him. I don’t believe in murder....just because he has a bad prognosis, doesn’t mean we kill him.
I don’t believe in a culture of death.....however, after two open heart surgeries my mother finally opted for Hospice. She was tired and feeling her age. When I took over her care she nearly died one very emotional night. After that the doctor and I had to work things out, the hospital interfered and tried to place her in a nursing home. Instead, I had to pitch a fit and get her released to me and hospice. After several months, she was improving. The hospice nurse and my family got her transferred to our hometown and into our own home. She was continuing to thrive and they kicked her right out of hospice. The second year, she became incontinent. It was a rough second year. Emotionally draining and exhausting. When hospice was called back it was only two weeks before she died.
My mother’s generation feared hospice....everyone they knew went into it and died right away. Culture of death fears prevailed. The nurses I found and the program as it worked for my mother was awesome. Sometimes you make mistakes. With my mother responsible for her own care on her own, she would most likely have died. As it turned out her short term memory was gone and she needed daily monitoring on her medications and that helped her managed her CHF effectively enough that hospice discharged her.
While there is a time to accept the inevitable, my personal experience has been good. Quality care at home is what hospice is all about.
There is a balance needed regarding death.....and I really don’t want to experience the kind of death panels in Canada that were so cold hearted and cruel as to put a family through what Baby Joseph’s family is going through. We should have some compassion.
We need to be vigilant that this does not happen here.....despite the passage of obamacaredeathpanel-style health care, we can still fight this here. It’s a shame we have so many fearful lemmings willing to give them the powers they will need over us. All in the name of the all mighty dollar. Sad state of affairs.
Sorry, I misread your post. You have had no personal loss. My mistake.
