School boards and local governments across Wisconsin are rushing to reach agreements with unions before a new law takes effect that will remove their ability to collectively bargain over nearly all issues other than minimal salary increases. Secretary of State Doug La Follette said Monday he decided to delay publication of the law until the latest day possible, March 25, to give those local governments as much time as possible to reach agreements. The law doesn't take effect until the day after La Follette publishes it.
Gov. Scott Walker had asked La Follette to publish the law on Monday, but the Democratic secretary of state, who called the new law the biggest change in labor management history in 50 years, said he didn't see any emergency that warranted him doing that.
La Follette said he heard from many schools, cities and counties urging him to delay enactment of the law as long as possible.
The law is also being challenged in court. A hearing on that lawsuit, brought by the Democratic Dane County executive, was scheduled for Wednesday. A request for an emergency injunction to block the law was rejected on Friday.

Does the WI Sect’y of State serve at the pleasure of the governor?
They’re elected.
Soros has set up an org specifically to sway secstate elections:

Particularly they control recounts & things like that.
who decides what is officially published.
I bet the internet has it published right now AND it would take very little to mail a copy to each and every school board member.
besides they can just wait until april 1.
It’s time the greedy, dirty, ignorant, thieving, ungrateful taxpayers learn who’s boss!

I can understand why the unions would want to rush, but why would the local school boards and governments, unless they are still corruptly in bed together? This just proves the Governor’s assertions.
Mike
Because quite a few of them are controlled lock, stock and barrel by the teachers unions.
I only hope that if the locals do circumvent this law, that they are left holding the bag when they arrive at the Governor’s office for bailouts. If the voters who elected these miscreants think this is good government, they should be made to pay for it themselves out of local tax revenues.

Leftists never miss a sleazy trick. I presume this guy is a direct descendant of the famous Wisconsin “Progressive” Bob La Follette?
What would be required to put the pension requirement back to each district?
No, it’s an elected position.
Does it really matter when the bill goes into effect or what contracts are signed? Union dues will no longer be collected by the state and many members will decide not to pay dues. Union membership will decline significantly and so will union donations to democrats and other political activities.
This is exactly the reason to outlaw public sector unions!
When they can elect those that they bargain with the taxpayers get screwed.
Could any private company survive a union that had the right to set on both sides of the bargaining table?
Nope. Elected. Democrat. Serves, therefore, at the pleasure of the SEIU etc.
Seems like another good target for recall since he is elected. He isn’t doing his job, playing politics with the law and should be removed. Democrats are pure scum
If the local districts rush to get new contracts they would only be hurting themselves since the new law has a provision not to allow for any property tax increases over the previous levy rate.
They can sign a new contract with a bunch of new bennies, but leave themselves with no $$$$ to operate with.
They would be fools to rush to this, but they are fools to have fought it in the first place.
I think the next round of school board elections will be very interesting......
If you search/investigate you will find that most ‘boards’, ‘commissions’ etc of government from city to state are tied/dependent on agency staff for info and decisions. Our government ,bottom to top, has been taken over by these employees most of whom are more concerned with amount they get paid rather than value of service to the general public. Of course government employees will claim they to are members of the public and get hurt by taxes. What they don’t mention is that what they lose by taxes they make up by increased income as government employees.
Why would the school boards agree to rush things through before the new law?
