Secretary of State Doug La Follette said after spending much time talking to people this weekend and thinking over when to publish the collective bargaining bill, he'd decided the bill will be published March 25.
La Follette, a Democrat, said he wants to give local officials and employees time to sort out the ramifications of the new law.
"There literally are hundreds of school boards, municipalities, cities and their employees who are working together -- that's what impressed me, both management and labor working together -- that are tyring to sort out the best way to deal with this," La Follette said. "It seems only responsible to give them that time."
Under state law, the Secretary of State has 10 days after the office receives a bill to publish it, not including weekends. It becomes law the following day. Since March 25 is a Friday, it's unclear to La Follette if the bill would become law on Saturday, March 26 or the following Monday.
La Follette said he is following normal procedure by taking the full 10 days.
Republican Gov. Scott Walker sent the bill to La Follette on Friday and asked that he publish it today. La Follette said he contacted Walker to see what his reasons were for the expedited timeline but didn't get a response.
La Follette said the statute requires him to decide when the bill will be published today, though he said he would have rather waited until after a hearing Wednesday on a lawsuit filed by Dane County to block the bill.
Unions pulling strings of Democrat elected officials to continue the game-playing and manipulation behind the scenes.
Any public entities who give in to union pressure to extend or negotiate new contracts during this time period do so at their own peril. There will NOT be state money available to pay the bills, and they too will be facing voters soon.
And his family tree is full of rot. He's related to "Fighting" Bob LaFollette, a truly vile politician (in spite of the 'R' next to his name).
Geesh, the guy would have had cover if he had just said he saw no pressing reason to expedite and would treat it like all other bills. But no, he had to go blatantly political.
Is Doug La Follette part of the George Soros “Secretary of State””Project”?
They have used all means to go around the election results.
The school boards should drag out the process until then.
In 1946, his son, Senator Bob La Follette, Jr. (R-Wisc.) was beaten by an unknown chicken farmer turned country lawyer named Joe McCarthy, who had just come home after fighting the Japanese in the South Pacific.
Ok, have the legislature pass a law abolishing the Office of Secretary of State. If that is too harsh, have them pass a law obviating the need for the Sec of State to publish laws, re-pass the law asap. Even better, the dems are back in town.
Actually, he is NOT at all related to “Fighting” Bob LaFollette. In fact, he changed the spelling of his name years ago to fool people into thinking this.
What's pathetic is that the name LaFollette still is largely revered in Wisconsin but Joe McCarthy's lives on in disgrace. It's simply 180 degrees out of phase with reality.
This is typical Dem hackery, and many local and school districts will race to screw the taxpayer, but inevitably they are merely dalaying the inevitable by two years.
He’s not very closely related to Fighting Bob LaFollette. He’s something like a 2nd cousin once, or twice, removed, although he pretends differentlyl. The relationship came out during a previous election.
He’s also a far lefty. I know one of his neighbors whom he threatened about (the neighbor’s) his American flag. LaFollette told his neighbor to “move your (American) flag back into the woods where no one can see it.”
What kind of American elected official says something like that?
I'll defer to you on this since you're actually in Wisconsin. My source for the information came from an article in the Journal-Sentinel:
"He has a famous political name in Progressive politics: his great-grandfather and "Fighting Bob" La Follette's father were brothers."
My error was trusting the accuracy of the lamestream media. I really ought to know better by now.
Thanks, that was my conclusion too. I first noticed there was no relationship mentioned on his wikepedia page, and checked further. In this case, wiki was right.
He’s an elitist PhD Democrat, however.
You just summed up Madison and the protests with that statement.
You just summed up Madison and the protests with that statement.
Why? Because F*** YOU, that’s why.
