Russia will love this. Germany will have to buy more gas and oil from Uncle Joe. Maybe the leftist greens in Germany want to drive everyone into Putin's arms. This will also make Germany compliant with Russia's expansionist agenda.

I understand reviewing safety procedures, but a total shutdown seems like a bit much. Especially since Germany doesn't get earthquakes or tsunamis.

German Min: Nuclear Decision 1st Response To Japan Incidents
http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20110314-710440.html
MARCH 14, 2011, 1:01 P.M
German Environment Minister Norbert Roettgen said Monday that the government's decision to impose a three-month moratorium on the extension of the operating lives of nuclear power plants is a “first adequate response” to the nuclear crisis in Japan.
...
The operating lives of older nuclear power plants will also addressed during that review, he said.
The 840-megawatt reactor Neckarwestheim 1 operated by German utility EnBW Energie Baden-Wuerttemberg AG (EBK.XE) is the only power plant that will have to be shut down due to the moratorium, Roettgen said.

Oh good grief. If there is a car accident, you don’t ban cars, you learn from it and make them stronger. The Greens are eating this up and using this tragedy to push their agenda.

Pure, unmitigated, insanity...
Japan’s plants are facing a SHTF natural catastrophic trigger event.
Japan’s plants are not “melting down” due to some routine malfunction.

IIRC, it was Limbaugh who asked yesterday, ‘how many CFL bulbs were broken during the Japanese earthquake?’
Maybe Germany should shut down all electric to sockets housing CFL bulbs, so those bulbs can be inspected for safety.
But... even here in the good ole USofA, last week Senator Lieberman was calling for a halt to nuclear plant construction. [He didn't realize, apparently, that we haven't put a new reactor on-line since about 1995.]
