AUSTIN, Texas — Sen. Al Franken claimed Monday that big corporations are "hoping to destroy" the Internet and issued a call to arms to several hundred tech-savvy South by Southwest attendees to preserve net neutrality.

"I came here to warn you, the party may be over," Franken said. "They're coming after the Internet hoping to destroy the very thing that makes it such an important [medium] for independent artists and entrepreneurs: its openness and freedom.”

Even though I am no fan of Sen. Franken, while holding my nose, he is correct on this issue.

The greatest threat to the Internet is increasing government control and even censorship.

Franken is a leftist manipulator and if he if for it there is a 99.99% probability it is evil.

Such as this case, where he is pushing for greater government control, regulation and intervention - it’s BULL**** what he is saying.

The greatest threat to Franken is his absolute lack of humor.

You don’t think a company should be able to charge based on services? How are they supposed to expand and improve if they are forced to give the same service to everyone? If the democrats are for it, I can be sure it is a bogus anti-commerce law.

No, Franken is wrong as always. His net neutrality is government control of the internet. This Marxist would never support true freedom.

I think he mis-spoke. He meant to say “WE’RE coming after the Internet.” He’d love to have the censorship power and for his Pres to have the kill switch.

Franken=Commie Fagsickle. He is a liar. The only people who want to destroy the freedom and openess of the internet are his (commie/socialist) people.

I think Al has it wrong. It should say “WE are coming after the internet” (”we” being the 0bama administration).

Keep the internet free of government intervention.

For people like Franken, freedom is to important to be left in the hands of the people.

I don’t know much about Pawlenty, so I can’t say if I’d want him as President. However, the same voters that made him governor sent this horse’s ass Frankenhole to the Senate. So that’s a problem right there....

If anyone is coming after the internet, it's the left! Of course, it will still be alright to shill for their agenda...

No he isn't. His half-dark Omaster is the one who wants an Internet kill switch in order to facilitate an Egypt/Lybia-style communications black-out when "necessary".

Necessary being defined as required to stifle any coordinated anti-Regime activism in case of economic collapse and/or manufactured emergency.

Greatest threat to Internet is Big Government...not big business. But Big Corporations are as harmful as big government. Too much power. Remember Lord Acton. “Power corrupts...absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

Franken said talk of a "government takeover" of the Internet by net neutrality critics has as much credibility as claims of "death panels" in the health care legislation

Yep, that good 'ole Al has it right on this one. Not.
