President Obama’s Trivial Pursuits
White House Dossier ^ | March 15, 2011 | by Keith Koffler

The Middle East is afire with rebellion, Japan is imploding from an earthquake, and the battle of the budget is on in the United States, but none of this seems to be deterring President Obama from a heavy schedule of childish distractions.

The newly installed tandem of White House Chief of Staff William Daley and Senior Adviser David Plouffe were supposed to impart a new sense of discipline and purpose to the White House. Instead, they are permitting him to showcase himself as a poorly focused leader who has his priorities backward.

This morning, as Japan’s nuclear crisis enters a potentially catastrophic phase, we are told that Obama is videotaping his NCAA tournament picks and that we’ll be able to tune into ESPN Wednesday to find out who he likes.

But the fun stuff won’t end anytime soon. On Thursday, the Taoiseach of Ireland will be in town to help the president celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. And then Friday it’s off to Brazil for the start of a three-country Latin American tour.

Oddly, he’ll be missing Carnival, which went down last week.

The sad thing is that this is just the beginning. Years after he’s out of the Presidency (hopefully starting in 2012), ESPN will still be doing a special on his picks for the NCAA’s, Superbowl etc..

Let Obozo focus on trivial pursuits. The consequences of screwing them up are far less than if he focuses on important stuff.

Maybe we could get Obama to take a position in foreign policy issues if we would couched the question as a tournament bracket.

I’m glad this story is getting so much play, not for vindictive reasons, but for the picture it paints. This guy either doesn’t get it or he doesn’t care and this episode might open some eyes.

I personally think that the reason he is silent is because what is going on behind the scene that we can’t see is worse than anyone could imagine. Keeping his mouth shut is not the best political strategy but not near as bad if he were to truly state how he feels and what his true intentions are.

Back when Bush was President and the unemployment rate was “only” 5%, Hillary was constantly screeching, on any camera she could find nearby, about “the worst economy since Herbert Hoover”.

And now that the rate is 9-10%, month after month, what doe she have to say?

Crickets.

Simple things for simple minds. I’m not all that sure I’d want this inept nincompoop making more life and death decisions.

I vote both. He doesn’t get it and he doesn’t care- and further- he doesn’t care that he doesn’t get it..

It is just so obvious.

I almost made it there but I was starting to rage. Now only if Basketball Brackets made it into this story...

He reflects much of what our country has become. Self-absorbed, disinterested in meaningful aspects of events and culture.

Can you imagine if someone like Margaret Cho came out and said “Obama doesn’t like Asian people.” I don’t believe that he doesn’t, but it’s somehow okay to say that Bush didn’t like black people and Kanye gets a pass. Bush responded 1000x more empathetically than Obama has. Parties, b-ball brackets, fundraising? This is the most significant world event in my lifetime (52 years). I’ve never seen such destruction of a civilized area.

I’m embarrassed by how our country is being represented by our leaders.
