“Very acute radiation, like that which happened in Chernobyl and to the Japanese workers at the nuclear power station, is unlikely for the population,”

Those workers at the power station must know they are sacrificing themselves. Brave men.

Nuclear radiation is an especially sensitive issue for Japanese following the country's worst human catastrophe -- the U.S. atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Yes, how well I remember the horror of that day, when Republican President Richard M. Nixon, without the slightest reason for doing so, ordered two American B-52 airplanes to go over and drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Casualities were very high because Nixon insisted that the bombs be dropped without giving any warning to the Japanese people. Truly, a "Day That will Live In Infamy," as Franklin D. Roosevelt, the man who threw the hated Nixon out of office, so movingly named it.

I’m sure he’s not going to whine on TV that he would really like to have his life back.

“Official: Japan’s nuclear situation nearing severity of Chernobyl
Sigh, looks like Japan will be home to the worlds largest dirty bomb.”
The containment blew spreading 450 tons of fuel over the country side??? I do not think so!!

There is no comparison to Chernobyl at this time, I am amazed by all the references to 3 Mile Island (which amounted to nothing) and the article quotes what I assume is an antinuclear group on how much radiation will cause cancer. I guess there are no medical authorities on that subject?

Around eight hours after the explosions, the U.N. weather agency said winds were dispersing radioactive material over the Pacific Ocean, away from Japan and other Asian countries.
I can't help but think radiation fall out will be absorbed into the ocean. Fish, who are infected and can swim hundreds or thousands of miles to other parts of the world, will be consumed by humans will then absorb the radiation.
To: Cheetahcat
Not yet, but they are having problems with cooling the spent fuel kept at their facility.

I do not believe Nag and Hiroshima were even Japan’s “worst human tragedy” in WWII much less in history, and the responsible party for those bombings was Japan. Except for those who are ignorant of historical fact.
