We all know that governments are notorious for not telling the truth. So it seems like there are a lot of mixed messages. One thing I know for sure... No one outside the disaster area really knows for sure. Time will tell.... Nevertheless, it’s better to prepare for the worse case, but pray and hope for the best case scenario.

I think we should all recognize that in the past few days the media has been reporting everything from "it's all good" to "it's Chernobyl II" often at the same time. We don't really know squat, and those who pretend we do are probably going to look stupid before this is over, especially if they're making smartass remarks about it.

However, even if this ends up being a major disaster, I won't feel stupid for telling people not to panic, because of...well, this, among other things.

I would also note that "released directly" could mean anything from a wide open containment vessel to the less-than-the-rads-from-eating-potassiom-isotopes-in-a-banana that we saw at Three Mile Island. The media keeps telling us multiple stories and using vague language to fill the 24 hour news cycle.
