If too many people pay nothing, how is it that the small segment that is wealthy still pays over 50% of the taxes?
Because the present tax code "rewards" high income earners with far higher tax rates on the amount of income that pushes them into the higher tax brackets.
I think the only way to resolve this is by way of a national retail sales tax. I like the FairTax in theory, but I think in practice it might not be the most practical of solutions. But given a choice between the FairTax and the current tax code, I'll go with the FairTax.
