I posted this yesterday morning, the website of the Embassy of Japan has a page linking to help venues:

http://www.us.emb-japan.go.jp/j/anzen/jishin_message.html

The Red Cross is probably the best shot and is the first thing on the list. They need help in large quantities immediately and from what I read, aid has been slow in getting organized.

“aid has been slow in getting organized.”

WHY?

Within days of the Haiti Quake, H-wood and aid agencies were working at warp speed.

Never again will the Red Cross ever see a penny from me. I was lied to by them on 9-11; they promised that they were there for the 9-11 survivors. The Red Cross what they considered the 'extra' money for themselves - instead of doing what they promised.

Fool me once, shame on you;
Fool me twice - shame on me.

Give it to your Church, or the Salvation Army. They appear to have some integrity.

I give to the Salvation Army. They actually help where it's needed.

The Red Cross has been busted spending donations on inflated salaries and excessive admin costs too many times.

The Red Cross should be last on the list.

Most of the money sent to the Red Cross will not go to help people truly in need of emergency help.
The Red Cross has many government contracts that gets their name listed as a “go to” charitable organization.
They are essentially a government agency, and frankly just syphon off desperately needed charitable funds to pay for their large and basically useless bureaucracy.

The Salvation Army does the hard, unglamorous grunt work that needs to be done “right now”, and doesn't demand media attention for doing what must be done.

And yes, I once worked in a paid, part-time position at the Red Cross.
Some truths must be experienced, to be believed.
In this...at least pay attention to experienced honorable USA military veterans of every era for the past 60 years.
Ignore the Red Cross.
