Dan Edward, director of Radiation Shield Technologies, was on Fox News wearing the suit. It looks a lot like scuba diving gear. The suit is the only one in the world that is NBC, meaning it protects against nuclear, biological and chemical threats. After 9/11, many agencies in the United States asked for suits, but oddly enough when asked by the Fox News interviewer how many nuclear plants in the United States have them, the answer was none.

Demron is a cool material, it is using advanced poymers to emulate the molecular structure radiation absorbing cross section of lead without the weight and bulkiness.
It will prove usefull in radiation sheilding for both nuclear power plants, doctor’s office X-rays, and in space craft radiation shielding.
What a gift to the world. At the end of the article, there is a link to their website. Its mind blowing. They have quite a few products listed there with the prices.
May be they are expensive. It would be just another government regulation requiring these suits on site. Cutting into profit margins making nuclear power more expensive and less attractive for investors.
The website says $1700 a suit. The thyroid collar is like a hundred and something. Hey, I don’t think that’s too expensive!
My question to this would be why did it take so long to get these suits to the Japanese heroes that are fighting this battle. It is most likely too late now! Bunch of morons!
I appreciate that they donated them, but why take so long????? I just don’t get it!
Better than aluminum foil, not as good as tantulum foil, for the same thickness, seems to be closest to copper foil. Tests by Lawrence Livermore Labs.
Can you not make one out of duck tape and tin foil, if nothing more it would speed the cooking process. LOL
General Electric said they had gas turbine generators they could have flown in as backup power for the cooling pumps. I realize they would have had to fly them in then use a heavy lift chopper to get them to the site.
Did someone say do not do it? Do not help one of our allies that is not muslim?
The US military has these gas turbine generators as do other big companies. As soon as they knew the generators were not working and they were going to back up power on the pumps - generators should have been in transit.
And what about the USELESS Intl Atomic Energy Agency. Why is there no global disaster plan in case a plant like this loses their cooling pumps? Or the US Dept of Energy. Endless and useless bureaucrats doing nothing.
American innovation. Very cool technology that will save lives if push comes to shove.
...and freepers would probably complain because the govt made them do something.
yep, the suit is equivalent to .2 mm of lead and stops 50% of gammas with an energy less than 130 KeV.
Cesium 137 is 600 KeV and cobalt-60 is over 1000 KeV, though. The suit will provide some, but not much, protection against high energy gammas that you get from reactor fuel.
Most reactor sites use Tyvek-type suits that provide particulate protection only, since it is very hard to stop the usual gamma rays without a half-inch of lead. Tyvek suits are cheap and disposable (no decontam costs).
I got one.

Yeah, those darn freepers. Too bad you're forced to associate with them here.
Cool. What’s with the snorkel? Diving in containment?
Very sad
It should have been General Electric has gas turbine generators and they are now enroute to Japan to help them get power back up for the cooling pumps!
This is where our country should be stepping up to the plate rather than sitting on our hands stating well we could of helped!
Just do it!
Those in charge of nuclear plant safety have gained power in the last few days...
There’s no force involved, I enjoy my time here.
This is what’s makes this country so great! Well that and the lord.

Exactly, why didn't GE help? This needs a Congressional investigation.
