Sunni - Shia war. As much as I hate seeing Bahrain getting destroyed in this process (it’s a lovely country and it has a great deal of history — Bahrain was called Dilmun and was on the trade routes between the Sumerians in what is now Iraq and the Indian Harrappan civilisation and has its first mention in 3000 BC — it is also the supposed site of the garden of Eden (not so outlandish if you consider that the water levels would have been lower and the Persian gulf a stream), I think it’s a good thing we should encourage.

Bahrain and the entire region from Kuwait to Oman was called the Persian province of Bahrain at one time.

Yes, I agree — the Sauds destroyed the Ismaili tombs in south SA, but now they are openly taking on Iran. This will provoke a Shia reaction in Iran, Iraq, Pakistan etc.

I cheer it on not for Sauds winning but because this is the start of the renewed Sunni-Shia war. US, France, UK etc. should stay the **** out of Libya and Bahrain and let the Mooselimbs fight among themselves.

well put -- I'm going to repost your statement in bold -- hopefully any lurkers or those googling "libya war" read this
The Saudi royals are permitted to live their decadent lifestyle as long as they give the wahabis control over Saudi society and keep the oil dollars flowing to support the wahabi terrorist acts and emigration program (in case people haven’t woken up, all those muslims settling into small towns and cities throughout North America aren’t doing it because of the quality of the halal restaurants in Podunk, Arkansas - it’s a well designed and financed plan to spread islam worldwide).

Well, they already had this just a few years after Mo died — the followers of Ali went against the Caliphs.

yes — if I had to choose Sunni vs Shia — the Shias are more open. But it’s still like asking me which devil I prefer. I prefer actually that both the devils fight each other to the death.

The Christians in Iraq have all but disappeared in our latest fool's errand there.

Yes. and We all need to remember that both are evil cults. Both hate Christians to an extent most Americans do not seem to understand. yes

There are a heckuvalottta infighting in Islam

After the Profit Mo died, his 3 companions became religious/political leaders (Caliphs) but after the first 4 died, then Mo's son-in-law Ali wanted to be Caliph and he was supported by Mo's 9-yeard old bride Aisha (ok, she was older by this time!) starting the first war and when Mo's grandson Hussein was killed by the Caliphs, that was the start of the Shias

The Ibadis (who dominate Oman) split off at the same time

Among the Sunnis (80% of the worlds Moslems -- but that is because of their domination in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia and India which together comprise 700 odd million Moslems (70% of all Moslems in the world) there are numerous schools: hanafi etc. -- the Sufis mixed mysticism with Islam and are hated by Wahabbis. Wahabbis and the Deoband school of Islam are detested by other Sunnis.

Among Shias you have twelver (the majority) and 7ers and 5 evers depending on how many Imams they think were "righteous". You have Shias, Ismailis, Bohris, Syedna Bohris etc. -- Ismailis have their own hereditary ruler -- the Aga Khan (who is now a playboy like his dad and has at least 75% European blood as his dad and grandad married various European women (and got divorced and lost a lot of money!)) who gets 10% of the money from Ismailis globally, Syedna Bohris have their own Syedna who is the theocratic ruler. Bohras have a council. Now the Shias believe in interpretation of the Koran, unlike the strict Sunni idea -- no interpretation, take it literally, even the bits about killin'.

And you have others -- Ibadis who are far more peaceful yet have their own Imamate

Then Druze, Allawis, etc. who are really Gnostics or syncretic religions rather than Moslems

And the Ahmadiyyas and Bahai's who have new prophets (after Mo) and are considered the worst kind of heretic by all other Moslems as to say that there was a prophet after Mo is the worst kind of blasphemy!)

Bluntly, the Iranis could kick the shiite out of the Sauds. The only way they could be defeated is if the US intervenes. Let the two fight and only launch missiles if it looks like the Iranis are conquering the oil fields.

Frantzie, are you having a hard time grasping that the Saudi Leadership might be destroying Mosques? I guess you are.

I guess you think it makes no difference if those mosques are destroyed or not.

Good to know. Thanks for being honest.

No Shiite Sherlock! That’s what the Saudis say. BTW to say only 10% of Muslims are Shiite is the wrong perspective. The real question is how many Shiites are in the Middle East? That number is 35-40%. With Middle East defined as stretching from Iran to Egypt

The current Iranian goal is to have the Middle East under their control. To be so defiant of the West (the infidels) and so militarily powerful that you will see mass conversions from Sunni to Shiite in the ME. Sunni Muslims going with the “strong horse” as Osama Bin Ladin would put it

err.. yeah, that's what I said Among the Sunnis (80% of the worlds Moslems -- but that is because of their domination in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia and India which together comprise 700 odd million Moslems (70% of all Moslems in the world) there are numerous schools: hanafi etc. -- the Sufis mixed mysticism with Islam and are hated by Wahabbis. Wahabbis and the Deoband school of Islam are detested by other Sunnis.

yes, you're right that 30-40% of the ME is Shiite (Pakiland is not ME no matter how much they pretend to be)

Bluntly, I think Shia would be easier to handle than Sunnis -- it's a case of the lesser evil.

Yes simply because they have fewer resources compared the monsters in Riyadh.

There are other factors invovled too.

Trust you to know about Bahrain’s glory in antiquity.

On a more recent note, the British Empire succeeded in getting the decrepit Persian Empire to turn control of Bahrain over to British proxies, the current ruling family, sometime around 1780 or so.

The Persians still consider it theirs and now that the Shias have got their dander up, expect a low boil for a long time.

Still, shows how exasperated the Saudis with Obama that they actually sent their own troops and organized others, sovereign and private to assist Bahrain.

Rooting for the Saudis ain’t too odd now, since in Libya we’re kinda helping hardcore jihadis! :>>
