Then there was the time Gov Weld sang to Billy about a "winning ticket in the lottery/You're gonna be a millionaire, there is no doubt/ For I had YER BROTHER (Whitey) pick these numbers out"
Sun column ping. Billy Bulger, Billy Bulger, whenever you got your Irish up, Billy lowered the boom, boom, boom, boom...

Does anybody broadcast the St. Patrick’s Day breakfast anymore? Would anybody watch or listen, anyway? No matter — here’s what will happen this morning, or should anyway.
Sen. Jack Hart’s biggest applause line of the day: “Sen. John Kerry could be not here with us this morning.”
First standing ovation: for Patrice Tierney, fresh from her month in the Big House. She didn’t do it for a friend, she did it for her brother – a gangster. How St. Patrick’s Day is it?
Rep. John Rogers brings a tear to many an eye with his touching ballad, “Petro, we hardly knew ye.”
Actually, it’s a shame the boyos won’t really be going after Gov. Deval Patrick the way he deserves to be roasted. Oh sure, they’ll launch a few feeble jokes about his book tour, not to mention Sen. Scott Brown’s. But think of the material Political Correctness will require these sad-sack, third-generation Hibernian highwaymen to leave on the cutting-room floor.
Remember what Billy Bulger used to say whenever Mike Dukakis would return from a Deval-like all-expenses-paid vacation: “Whenever I go anywhere, it’s a junket. When he goes, it’s a trade mission.”
Deval hates Hyatt Hotels, but he hasn’t a cross word to say about Blue Cross Blue Shield’s $11 million payoff to his fellow Chicago community activist Clueless Cleve Killingsworth. He said zero-zip-nada about Evergreen Solar ripping off the state for $57 million, but now he’s hopping mad about Fidelity moving 1,100 jobs, even though he campaigned to stop greyhound racing, which cost the state 2,000 jobs.
You see the potential? But who amongst the “legislative leadership” could deliver the lines? Speaker Bobby DeLeo reminds everyone of another old Bulger line: “To a battle of wits he comes unarmed.”
And the last time Rep. Brian Dempsey, the Ways and Means chairman, was asked to speak in public, it was 2 a.m. and the cops wanted him to recite the alphabet — backwards.
Rep. Ed Markey arrives late to grovel to retain his congressional seat; it’s been so long since he’s been in Massachusetts that he still thinks the breakfast is at Halitosis Hall.
The “embattled” Transportation secretary Jeff Mullan is “mistakenly” introduced as Jim Aloisi.
Mumbles Menino asks, “Has anyone seen Auditor Glodis?” and then says, “I saw Suzanne Bump — she said she loves this hall so much she’s declaring it as her third primary residence.”
Sal DiMasi introduces a very special guest, his new closest adviser — runaway gangster Enrico Ponzo.
Lt. Gov. Tim Murray, who plays Robin to Deval’s Batman, likes his waitress so much he decides to tip her with a $105,000-a-year state job. His waitress’ name: Marian Walsh.
As the roast sputters and grinds to a halt, Ned and Abigail Johnson arrive to announce that next year the breakfast will be moved to Merrimack, N.H. Scattered hisses are replaced by wild cheering as the drunken probation officers realize Merrimack is also home to a Budweiser brewery.
Finally, Wacko Hurley appears to announce the beginning of the parade. Only this year, instead of Wacko, Whitey Bulger shows up. No one will be watching, or listening, and Whitey will successfully make his escape as Sal DiMasi and Enrico Ponzo cheer him on.
Me? I’m going to the seafood show this morning. It smells a lot better than the breakfast.

You know I saw him listed on my internet radio apps. I have been listening every now and then. Never a dull moment. A lot of boston local stuff not familar. But some broadcaster.
Anyone know who’s broadcasting the breakfast this year?

It’s all but Olver for this rep

Don’t be standing too close to U.S. Rep. John Olver of Amherst.
Nothing’s written in stone, but if I had to pick a Massachusetts solon most likely to get a rocket in his pocket next year, it would be the ancient moonbat from the 1st Congressional District.
He’s already Forgotten but Not Gone. Consider the other strikes “the Per-fessor” has against him as the very ethical state Legislature begins reducing 10 congressional districts to nine:
• He’s the oldest hack in the delegation (74 years old).
• By any definition, he’s the most irrelevant.
• His district is hemorrhaging Americans.
• Even before the new census, his district made absolutely no sense, stretching from the New York line to suburban Lowell.
The only thing Olver seems to have going for him is that the state Senate majority leader, Stanley Rosenberg (also of Amherst, by way of Revere), is his former aide and pal.
Rosenberg has already announced the two Western Mass. districts will endure. How exactly do you plan to accomplish this, Stanley? Richie Neal, the other solon from the 413 area code, already represents Bellingham and advertises on Boston TV stations.
The simplest solution would be to combine most of the four western counties into one district — 830,000 citizens — when all you need for a district is 727,000, and let Neal run against Olver. Neal has already come out for the Libyan incursion. Olver’s statement denouncing this new conflict is expected as soon as he awakens from his nap and someone reminds him that George Bush is no longer the president.
The problem for Olver is, he’s so weak that even if they sliced ’n’ diced the district deeper in Middlesex, Niki Tsongas (technically of Lowell) would still trim him. And she’s nothing to write home about either. But why would you chop up one of the few districts that makes sense — Tsongas’ Merrimack Valley 5th — to guarantee one more two-year term for a guy who stopped buying green bananas years ago?
Another simple solution — make Suffolk County (722,000) a single district. Alas, three incumbents now have a piece of Boston. If the State House hacks do the logical thing with Suffolk, suddenly Mike Capuano of Somerville will be in Ed Markey’s district — Fast Eddie’s worst nightmare, an Italian-American with a pulse.
Safe for the moment: Bill Keating, Barney Frank, Johnny Pockets Tierney and Jim McGovern (D-Caracas).
Whatever happens, if you’re an American who works for a living, you win, because come 2013 there will be one less of these fools in Washington trying to cut your throat. I’ve said it before: Isn’t it a shame we can’t dump two?

You know the old song, “Where have all the flowers gone?”
What I want to know is, where have all the moonbats gone?
The preposterous president these clueless trustafarians elected has now started a war with no congressional authorization and exactly one resolution from the United Nations. George Bush got 17 U.N. resolutions before invading Iraq and the limousine liberals sneered that it was a “rush to war.”
So where are all the candlelight vigils?
Whatever happened to “War is Not the Answer?” Does this “unilateral action” make Barack Obama a, gulp, “cowboy?” Is a village missing its idiot?
When George Bush started a war, the squirrelly hippies from Cambridge couldn’t wait to start rioting in front of the JFK Building. They’ve had a week now to get their new bumper stickers printed up. Stop Obama’s Endless Wars. Obama Lies, Libyans Die.
Where in Hollywood is this year’s “Not in My Name” anti-war petition circulating?
What happened to the Boston and Cambridge City Councils with their resolutions demanding that the president be tried in The Hague as a war criminal?
Where are the human shields, dammit?
Whatever happened to Code Pink?
When will Gen. Colin Powell appear on TV to say ominously of Libya, “If you break it, you bought it.”
When George Bush was president, every People’s Republic in New England had a hard-core group of wrinkly haters who would gather weekly on the town common, or in front of the courthouse, holding “No Blood for Oil” signs.
Where have all the moonbats gone? Who knew there was a Witness Protection Program for the MIA Birkenstock crowd? I’ve even got a new chant for them: “Hey hey, ho ho, Barack the war criminal’s got to go!”
Will Cindy Sheehan take the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard this summer to protest Barack on one of his many vacations, which the lickspittles in the media now invariably refer to as “working vacations”?
Will Comrade Chris Matthews call Obama what he always used to call Bush and Cheney? You know, “chickenhawk.”Remember Abu Ghraib? The New York Times [NYT] went crazy over “war crimes.”
Now there are thousands of photos of a handful of U.S. troops in Afghanistan posing with “trophy” bodies of civilians. But all the Times has to say is, nothing to see here, folks. Move along.
Here’s a bumper sticker you’ll never see in Brookline: “Nobody died at Abu Ghraib.”

Today’s Herald says the prosec. intends to retry him. Judge expected to issue bail decision Monday
Ayla contradicted everything the accuser said. The investigating detectives are witnesses for the defense and the DA’s witnesses are locked into their answers. I guess Ferrari doesn’t mind spending another $2.5 M to lose again. We sent letters to the judge today urging a dismissal. It was 11-1 to acquit on the main charge and nothing closer than 8-4 on the others.

Highway official resigns in wake of tunnel fiasco

A humbled Transportation Secretary Jeffrey Mullan announced today a senior highway official resigned following the debacle over a fallen light fixture in a Big Dig tunnel.
Frank Tramontozzi, the acting highway administrator, resigned in the wake of what Mullan called “a complete communication breakdown both externally and internally.”
Officials appointed Frank DePaola as the new acting highway administrator.
Asked why he didn’t resign, Mullan said, “My record speaks for itself in terms of being honest with people.” Although he admitted that the governor is “disappointed” in the way the tunnel accident was handled.
Mullan said there was a clear lack of management oversight that led to a delay of weeks in informing the public about the 110-pound fixture that crashed to the roadway in the Interstate 93 tunnel on Feb. 8.
Mullan said he was not fully informed of the incident for a month and he, in turn, did not tell Gov. Deval Patrick about it for another week.
Tramontozzi had been acting highway administrator for less than a month. He’ll be replaced by Frank DePaolo, who comes over from the MBTA.
