CAIRO – The head of the Arab League has criticized international strikes on Libya, saying they caused civilian deaths.
The Arab League's support for a no-fly zone last week helped overcome reluctance in the West for action in Libya. The U.N. authorized not only a no-fly zone but also "all necessary measures" to protect civilians.
Amr Moussa says the military operations have gone beyond what the Arab League backed.
Moussa has told reporters Sunday that "what happened differs from the no-fly zone objectives." He says "what we want is civilians' protection not shelling more civilians."
U.S. and European strikes overnight targeted mainly air defenses, the U.S. military said. Libya says 48 people were killed, including civilians.

Guess this answers all the posts as to why this league of extraordinary gentleman did not do it themselves.
We want a no fly zone, just one that is perfectly antiseptic, results in no casualities, and helps us kill a lot of Jews.

I think the West in general and the U.S. in particular is being set up. We are criticised by Arab governments for not doing anything (they have had since 1969 to do something about Libya). Then when we do something they criticise us for taking action. Within the next few days, the West and especially the U.S. will be denounced as imperialists trying to regain control over all the Arab world. Don’t be surprised if the UN votes to condemn the U.S.

The Arab League played their hand very well.
The League couldn’t stand by and say nothing as Gadddifi slaughtered his own people. That looks bad for in the world’s eyes.
And they couldn’t appear to be backing Western intervention. That looks bad in the Arab street.
Now they can actually have it both ways. We (the West) do all the dirty work AND get all the blame.
The Arab League is playing us for fools, and there’s nothing at this point we can do about it.
Arab League has to use the term “excessive force” thus it excuses them from the carnage that will be lost in this. Just trying to save face before there is an outcry from their own nations peoples. Riding the same line Pakistans Mashariff did.
