Emotional Interview With ‘The Boy Who Stood Up To A Bully’ Casey Heynes

Casey Heynes has captivated the world’s attention with the video of him standing up to a bully and laying the smackdown. As some news reports analyze the consequences of the fight, one news show in Australia went right to Casey to get his inspirational story.

Casey provides play-by-play commentary for his bully confrontation and admits that he wasn’t really thinking. The interview reveals that Casey suffered from a “lifetime of torment and abuse” and was all alone since his friends had deserted him. Casey sadly spoke about how he could only remember a couple of days when nobody would tease him, and that he even contemplated suicide. Finally though, as documented in the now famous clip, Casey just reached a point where enough was enough and snapped.

Casey has no regrets about the incident, but even more importantly, has a profound message for bullying victims around the world: “look for the good days, keep your chin up and school ain’t going to last forever.” And with Casey’s international popularity, and hundreds of thousands of supporters through social media, Casey is likely to have many more very good days in the future.

They are simply repeating the same inaccurate report.

What kind of media player do you need to play the video? It won’t play for me.

Little $h!t deserved to be slammed. One thing to watch is the kid in the white shirt. I think he was the bigger a-hole. I like the girl on how she told the white shirt to back off. White shirt IMHO is the more dangerous person than the little $h!t ! I think all of the kids involved in the bullying should have been punished as well !

Go Casey !

I had to give it some “special” permissions from firefox to allow it to get through my security.

“I was never bothered again after that. I think respect and self-respect are two very important characteristics in any person.”

Exactly.

When I was in fifth grade, I suddenly found myself being tormented by my next door neighbor, Johnny, although it was always after school.

I finally snapped. I grabbed him. He grabbed me. We tussled. I grabbed him by the thumbs. He then back off to my relief.

A couple of days later my Mom approached me in such a calmness I had never seen and said that Mrs. L. had told her she had taken her son to the hospital where it was found he had a broken thumb. I thought I was going to be punished big time. In my Mom’s calmness, she turned around and went back to what she was doing. To this day, I think she turned around and left because she was about to burst out laughing.

And by the way. I’m a girl.

After all these years, I am surprised to find that out detail about you.

"Why on earth was he bullied? I haven’t heard. He seems like an ok kid."

Because he was both fat and smart. Such people (I was one) are always targets. This has been going on forever (I was in school in the 1950's and 60's).

Usually bullying is a result of child abuse. The little kid’s family should be investigated.

I am semi-retired and sub in several districts. Mostly high school but some middle school where this type of bullying is more prevalent.

I concur thoroughly with your later post. It is the primary reason I just sub. This allows me more time to tutor (math and the sciences) where I can actually educate kids.

Nice to hear from a teacher that "gets it."

Bless you. I subbed before I taught (much better preparation than college classes or student teaching!) and I subbed middle school a lot because I would. I was already done raising my own three boys, so middle schoolers, while a challenge were not complete mysteries to me. But yes, they certainly can be rough on each other. And I recall middle school myself (we called it Jr. High, but the name change didn’t change the atmosphere). Worst couple of years of my life, and I think I probably had it pretty easy.
I’m glad not to be teaching now (I taught HS—mostly biology and health altho I taught physical science for one terrible year). The system has not improved, and while I really *like* teaching, I don’t like dealing with what you have to deal with. I would LOVE to homeschool my grandkids if I had any.
