President Obama and his national security team worked behind the scenes Sunday to try to shore up support within the Arab world for the military mission in Libya, with top White House aides reaching out to officials of the Arab League to insist the bombing does not exceed the scope of a U.N. mandate, according to senior administration officials.
The senior officials described the Obama team's phone calls as making clear to the Arab League that bombing Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's air defenses falls within the U.N. Security Council resolution's scope of imposing a no-fly zone and taking "all necessary measures" to stop the dictator from attacking civilians in his own country.
"We don't believe this goes beyond the resolution," said one senior administration official in describing the White House's message to the Arab League.
The lobbying came after Arab League officials complained earlier Sunday that airstrikes by the U.S. military and other allies inside Libya exceeded the scope of merely instituting a no-fly zone.

Much as I despise zero, I say just get crazy and start strafing Bahrain, Yemen for the sheer fun of it.
And how does blowing up Gaddafi’s palace qualify as establishing a “no fly zone”?
Curious minds want to know.
BUT....WE didn't bomb Daffy, so don't be mad at us! We're just doing what the UN told us to do!
The reason why I put Somalia and Sudan first is because they are more of a national security.
The Somalis and Sudanese here in the US are draining our welfare system dry. At least if their countries had governments some of them may go back. And we'd be able to help our own here in the USA.
Of course, we cant do any of this until after Libya has a new government (a la Iraq) and we no longer have to occupy that nation.
You might search all of FR, and not find a post where I complimented Obama or this administration. But his taking the fight to Qaddafi personally, for the purpose of short-cutting what might become another open-ended war or “police action,” deserves thanks and appreciation. So, “Thank you, Mr. Obama and Hillary.”
This could get Syrias.
It's just that the stakes are higher this time.
Much higher. We’re pi%&ing off a reformed international terrorist who kept Al qaeda in his own country in check and we’re trying to topple him.
I don’t trust them. There’s too much flip-flopping in this admin. Some general is now saying that getting Qaddafi (wish I could spell my name 10 different ways) is not the objective. So, after we destroy his air combat ability, what is? Someone other than O and H is pulling the strings, and the O had to get out of Dodge as soon as the shooting started. That’s not leadership.
Yep, Mo is a really bad guy, but absolutely non nuclear and fully inspected, agreed settlement for Pan Am 103, no subversion of Israel, or peace treaty, no financial or material support for terrorism. He was effectively neutral.
On the other hand, the "democracy demonstrators" are mostly fundamentalist Islam who are after "free stuff" in reparation of their poverty. They hate those rich Americans, they should have made them free, and given out the "free stuff" ages ago. So now they'll just get their "free stuff" from the Muslim Brotherhood office down on the corner.
What kind of military campaign does not target the enemies leader?
Soon, the arabs will be marching to protest the US killing babies.
Obama is going to unite the Arabs... against us again.
