OAXACA - Thirteen million dollars worth of pesos have been stolen from a cash transporting company in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Authorities say six armed robbers wore fake uniforms and even drove up in a money transport company's truck. No one was hurt in the huge hold-up.
Elsewhere in Mexico, the violence continued. Masked gunmen killed ten people at a bar in a rough neighborhood in Acapulco.
The same day, four others were attacked in a nearby town. The bodies of six men and women were also found.
The weekend violence happened in areas where the Beltran-Leyva cartel is in control.

Someone in Oaxaca has been watching old Steve McQueen movies. Still...you have to admire their style.

Oaxaca is one of my favorite Mexican towns. Gateway to the fabulous surfing at Puerto Escondido! I had no idea they had that much cash lying around!

Oaxaca is where we flew into when we got tired of Huatulco some years back. Travel from Huatulco to Oaxaca was via Air Liberdad DC-3.

150 million Pesos?
25 years ago that would have been a misdemeanor.
Now it is a major felony.
I wonder just how many billion American dollars a 150 million pesos is worth today.

I like gold or silver peso coins, the paper ones not so much. Same deal on U.S. dollars.

Yeah Baby, they had perfect DC-3s, complete with 1950-era decor and cute stewardess uniforms! Wonder what happened to them.
An airline official told me that PEMEX charged them $.10/gal for AVGAS! Flying down the river to Puerto Escondido 9-thousand ft mountains on each idea. 18-yr old pilot, no co-pilot! WOW!

Air Liberdad featured a beautiful bright white paint job with a blue lightning bolt down the fuselage. It was spotless inside the cabin.
I sat on the right side of the airplane, overlooking the wing, and watched as a drip of black lube oil would appear, then be blown away in the airstream. I rationalized this by thinking that as long as the oil appeared, there must be some oil inside the big radial.
We flew along, between the mountain passes at a leisurely 170 mph. The flight took about half an hour. Wife, son and I were the only Gringos on the plane.
The two pilots wore blue Nomex coveralls with jump boots, which gave us some pause.

Just another day of lawlessness in Mexico. And, this stolen money will probably be used to buy more weapons.
