The 'crime visa': How 18,000 illegal immigrants got legal status by being the victim of a crime

More than 18,000 illegal immigrants, plus 14,000 of their relatives, have gained U.S. visas under a new law since 2009 because they were victims of crime.

While many immigrants may still be unaware of the U visa, word is spreading fast in some communities.

The controversial rules state that if you are a victim of crime and you cooperate, or are 'helpful' with authorities, then you stand a good chance of getting a U visa.

Since 2009, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) has issued 18,654 and rejected 5,639 U visas — a 77 per cent approval rate.

Congress has put a ceiling on the number available annually at 10,000 and this year the USCIS looks on course easily to reach that figure, having received 3,331 applications in the first quarter.

Supporters of the visa says it helps in fighting crime. All too often crimes ranging from robbery and domestic violence to rape and murder have gone unreported because the victims were in the U.S. illegally.

“under a new law since 2009 because they were victims of crime”

Why is that a law?

Before going off, consider this. What if an illegal came over here and ended up working in a sweatshop with illegal working conditions. He’s not going to report his employer, because it’s still better than Mexico.

But what if he could report his employer and get a visa? I’d say he does a net benefit to our society, helping us nail an illegal-employing business, and ridding us of all the other illegals employed there. I’d even give him a cash reward for seed money to start as a legal immigrant, say 10% of what the company is fined.

Reporting an employer is not one of the criteria that this visa category seeks to address.

Like everything else, the illegals will try to game this. Just keep it simple and send them home instead.

A case in hand on this matter. A man and girlfriend who live together have a quarrel.

Man leaves the home. Two days later girl calls police to show slightly bruised head. And declares herself a victim of a crime. Domestic violence.

Man arrested and released.

Man certain the bruise is self-inflicted as he left the house to evade/avoid conflict based on her increasing insistence he marry her or have a baby with her.

Wife is an illegal alien, who increasingly picked quarrels with him to marry her and get her residence and citizenship.

Apparently this accusation took place when one of her friends who reportedly works in a courthouse told her about the victim law, so since he was not marrying her, she set the man up as the perpetrator of a crime and herself as the victim.

This is absurd like something out of the Twilight Zone. Killers can be victims of crime. That does not mean they should get rewarded for it. This kind of law will lead to false reports on crime and to framing innocent people.

An illegal alien should not be in this country in the first place. If he does not report a crime, that is his choice, If he does report a crime, he should not get a pass but instead be sent back to his country.

How can this nation be this stupid?

Accusations of domestic abuse (or even worse) against someone who has not perpetrated any crime are often the opening salvo in a nasty divorce, used as a way to get both the kids, the house, and a meaty cash allotment per month, while placing the husband on the defensive, removed from his property, resources, and children.

I have seen this done to guys I am sure did not deserve it, and it wasn't pretty. Often, the 'boyfriend' moved in even as he was served the protection order keeping him off his own property and from getting his stuff.

So, it is no surprise that there has been an innovative adaptation of this gambit to 'shake and bake' a batch of 'victim citizens'.
