I applaud Brown for at least using mostly real methods to close the budget gap, i.e. spending cuts and tax hikes.

However, there is no long term strategy. No spending caps, no extraction of concessions from the government employee unions, etc.

Arnold was as bad as his predecessor in depending on pure gimmicks.

Brown is just looking for short term fixes hoping that the economy will turn around and we can go back to business as usual, i.e. tax-tax-spend-spend.

"Support dips for California governor's budget plan"

Yeah, things like rising gas prices and rising food prices will tend to make someone's enthusiasm dip for a lot of things that will cost them more money. I had posted on a prior thread that Brown's timing would be dreadful. About the time the ballot initiative was to be voted on, gas would be about five dollars a gallon. Let's see now, would the voters rather have money for gas, or would they rather have the state take more money from them? Gee, that's a tough one to try to figure.

Before this whole mess in California is over, Brown will wish he lost the election in November.

What Brown wants to do is duplicitous. He wants to put a proposition measure on the ballot about raising taxes (temporarily- sure). He wants a bunch of people who pay little or no taxes to vote for a tax increase for those who do pay taxes or a lot of tax.
