Why The GOP Needs Palin And Gingrich
Forbes.com ^ | 03/24/2011 | Bill Frezza

As the curtain rises on the 2012 presidential campaign two giants hover over the Republican field--objects of admiration, derision and fear depending on your point of view. Inured to criticism, incapable of self reflection, bearing baggage that is truly world class, Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich have important roles to play if we hope to be spared a second term of Barack Obama.

Their assignment is to draw the pus out of the Republican Party. It's an honorable job, and somebody has to do it.

Hillary Clinton played a similar role for the Democrats four years ago. Bearing the brunt of attacks from the vast right-wing conspiracy still suffering from Clinton derangement syndrome, she was poorly defended by a Democratic base thoroughly divided on her candidacy. This opened the door for an unknown but charismatic senator who became a tabula rasa for a frightened and disaffected electorate. Without Hillary's prima donna performance as the greater-of-two-evils spear catcher, Obama's flaws might have gotten enough scrutiny to trip him up on his way to the coronation.

And so it falls to Sarah and Newt to absorb the full fury of the liberal press, pundits and billionaire-fronted advocacy groups. Hopefully these two sacrificial candidates will take punches and hog headlines to the bitter end before handing the baton to an unscarred nominee that is actually electable.

Of course, finding one amongst the sorry pack of wannabes is going to be no mean feat.

Mrs. Palin has already absorbed more crap than any candidate in history. She has little or no baggage other then what was “created” around her. Over saturation, yes, but still the best hope for America.

“Their assignment is to draw the pus out of the Republican Party.”

Just who is going to suck the pus out of Gingrich? He’s got enough pus flowing through his body to fill up Lake Superior.

If the GOP doesn’t revert to conservatism, the GOP can expect to wither on the political line. Go Tea Party! The TP exhibits the spirit of our colonial fathers who won, with the help of Almighty God, our independence from tyrannical England. An absolute must read for all Americans: “The Light and the Glory”, by Peter Marshall and David Manuel. Amazon has it for your kindle.

Newt on a bench with Nancy Pelosi.

I don’t want Newt near any election, especially Sarah’s.

Here we go again, more trying to pigeonhole Sarah in so the elitist candidate can be helped.

Oh, and Sarah is very electable if the RINO’s and the dems are so scared of her.

The big question is, can she overcome the primary fraud?

When did Newt become a giant? He faded years ago consorting with the left and the asylum. Now we are supposed to take him seriously?

To paraphrase Sarah:

We need Gingrich like a fish needs a bicycle.

What a crock! Palin, a gaffe machine? a scapegoat and punching bag? Sorry, this Bostonian doesn’t know a thing about Sarah Palin. This is a poor excuse for political commentary. He doesn’t understand that the TEA Party is not going to support a candidate just because the Republicans nominate them. The TEA Party achieved the victories in 2010, not the Republican establishment. This fellow won’t know what to think when the tsunami hits him.

Gingrich = Scozzafava.

Gingrich = bull**** 3-word Twitter 'supporting' the conservative after Scozzafava pulled out & supported the dem.

I was there. I saw it happen. Gingrich is persona non-grata.

Gingrich is one of them.

Same **** with Fred Thompson. People get their panties in a wad looking for someone good & what they get is a standard McCain-supporting asshat.

The TP can twist tails and call some shots within the repugnican party. The Tea party can not do squat without the GOP.

I absolutely adore Sarah and I admire her immensely for weathering the despicable storm the libs have thrown at her. She was ever graceful when they attacked her children, something I would not have had the guttural strength to do. I would have gone ballistic.

Newt certainly has his strong points and I agree with most of what he says, but the looney left will pounce on him for resigning his set and Speakership of the House.

If it came down to the two of them, I would go with Sarah 100%

Possibly the GOP needs one of them or both of them.

Perhaps neither can win, perhaps one of them could.

But the guy who wrote this article is far too much in love with the sound of his own voice to be trusted about anything -- except maybe sucking the pus out of wounds.

Maybe not even that.

Anyway, it sounds like something he thinks about a lot.
