Gates calls for Syrian forces to move aside
Financial Times ^ | 03/24/2011 | FT Reporters

The Syrian people should follow Egypt’s lead and the country’s army should “empower a revolution”, Robert Gates, US secretary of defence, said as thousands marched in a southern city.

Mr Gates made his comments – some of the toughest remarks to date by a US official about the rule of Bashar al-Assad, president – on a day of further upheaval in the Middle East and beyond.

The White House signalled that it was preparing for a change in power in Yemen, where it has been allied with the government of Ali Abdullah Saleh, president. Officials also said Nato had neared a deal to take over command and control of the military operation in Libya, after a dispute within the alliance.

According to article:
The Obama administration as a whole has been careful to avoid the language of regime change when dealing with the Middle East and it was not clear if the White House shared Mr Gates’ sentiments.

I wonder what an ‘inert’ intervention looks like.

Oh! Like Wisconsin!

What if the defense minister of Syria said: “The American People should follow Egypt’s lead and the country’s army should empower a revolution.”

Sedition is the stirring up of rebellion against the government in power.

This bozo Gates has lost his marbles. He is guilty of sedition in Syria.

“Indeed, I was truly stunned when I read the headline.

I am not sure that this has ever been done before?!”

Good point...and just why shouldn’t the same apply here. If the Tea Party can mass enough people, then Obama CLEARLY needs to step aside...by his own rules.

You should ask the mods to add [SecReV] to the title.

Rosco can fix up the Che/Gates insignia the Department will need now.

With dead’s tickletoes help, but somebody needs to ping roscoekarns since I can never spell his name right.

Sounds like SecDef, the WH, SecState, JCS, need to start coming up with a STRATEGY — yesterday. No, getting BHO elected in 2012 is NOT it.

So how many middle east countries are on fire since end of January? I have lost count...Let’s see, we have Tunisia, Yemen, Egypt, and now Syria. I feel like I have left some out....

Of course Libya and also Bahrain!

IMHO, the ultimate grand-prize may be Saudi Arabia.

Sadly, I believe you are correct! I can’t help but wonder and worry about the wizzard(s) behind the curtain orchestrating all this “democracy”

The whole Middle East will be up in flames by the time Obama is done, with Iran in charge.

Maybe it will finally be time to settle up with Iran. Any revolution in Syria will be a bloodbath orders of magnitude greater that Libya and Egypt.
