Napolitano: US border towns with Mexico are safe

EL PASO, Texas – U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said Thursday that security on the southern U.S. border "is better now than it ever has been" and that violence from neighboring Mexico hasn't spilled over in a serious way.

Napolitano spoke at the Bridge of The Americas border crossing, after a meeting with the mayors of the border towns of El Paso, Nogales, Ariz., and Yuma, Ariz. Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sanchez and U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Alan Bersin also were present.

Napolitano said the Department of Homeland Security will deploy 250 more border agents and expects to have 300 more under their next budget if it's approved. She stated that Homeland Security is investing "millions of dollars in the side of commerce and trade" to improve infrastructure and technology along the border.

Who's next to leave the Obammy administration? I would sure hope Janet would be at the top of the list of 'next'.

Is there something about Janets who serve in DemocRat administrations? Do they have to fall below a certain level or sumthin'?

Lets see I live about 120 miles north of the border in New Mexico.

Napolitano is a damn liar!

I have lived in Indianapolis, chicago and parts of texas, the border is a mess!

She isn't delusional, she is just a plain liar.

that violence from neighboring Mexico hasn't spilled over in a serious way.

Tell that to the Krentz family, you obsequious politician.

I'd propose this challenge to her:

We take her by car to one of the border towns by car and drop her off at twilight and she has to walk 30 miles (maybe longer?) north to where it is safer what it is dark. I'd consider giving her a revolver with 6 rounds unless the readers here think I'm too generous since Bammy is anti-gun. Then we will talk. These people need to backup the checks they write with their mouths but we know they never will because they are writing checks they can't cash.

I live 250 miles north and all my neighbors have loaded guns in their house, just in case.

In Arizona the border town of Nogales, once a major border crossing, is one of the few cities in Arizona that did not gain population in the last decade. North of Nogales in Rio Rico the number of homes for sale and abandoned is staggering. Few tourists visit Nogales, Sonora, and the town is dangerous after dark. There is little crime because Nogales is dead. Also dead is Puerto Penasco (Rocky Point), the former popular vacation spot on the Gulf of Mexico for people from Phoenix and Tucson. The narcotics trade has done terrific damage both to Sonora and Chihuahua, as well as to Arizona and New Mexico border towns. Thus, for Big Sis to brag that cities are safe ignores the issue of dead and dying border towns.
