Napolitano: Mexican Border Violence A Mistaken “Perception”
Judicial Watch ^ | March 25, 2011

Posted on 03/25/2011 9:50:37 AM PDT by jazusamo

Violence along the Mexican border is merely a mistaken “perception” because the area is better now than it ever has been thanks to the Obama Administration’s commitment to “fostering a secure and prosperous” region.

So says Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano who is beginning to sound like a desperate salesperson pushing a cheap product no one believes in. Napolitano’s latest pitch came this week at a port of entry in El Paso called the Bridge of the Americas. Joined by a group of local business leaders and politicians, Napolitano jubilantly declared that the area is safe and “open for business.”

Unfortunately, “misinformation about safety” is negatively impacting border communities by driving visitors away and hurting local businesses, Napolitano says. None of this is true, according to Madame Secretary who assures that “some of America’s safest communities are in the Southwest border region…” In fact, border city crime rates have remained steady or dropped over the past decade, Napolitano points out.

The reality is that Mexican drug-cartel violence has reached epic proportions and routinely spills into the very towns Napolitano promotes as “America’s safest communities.” Federal agents have come under siege by heavily armed drug smugglers and local media has exposed record levels in crimes associated with illicit narcotics operations. In fact, more than 13,000 people were murdered across Mexico last year in disturbing and cruel ways not previously seen.

Ironically, Mexico’s most violent region (Ciudad Juarez) borders El Paso, the very place Napolitano chose to deliver this week’s rosy assessment. Last fall a myriad of bullets fired into El Paso, striking City Hall and a public university building. The local sheriff says the gun battles are breaking out everywhere but his hands are tied because he’s legally forbidden from intervening in another country’s war. The disturbing incident inspired Texas’s Attorney General to send President Obama a letter saying his state is under constant assault from illegal activity threatening a porous border.

About a month later, amid escalating violence, Napolitano declared that the Mexican border “is as secure as it has ever been.” The famous words, ridiculed in the press worldwide, came days after U.S. Border Patrol agents engaged in a violent gunshot battle with Mexican drug smugglers along the Rio Grande in Texas. The federal officers came under siege during a bust that netted half a ton of U.S.-bound marijuana.

‘certifiably nuts’, I believe that about the whole Obama troupe.

As far as the perception being wrong, I think the dead farmer’s families would say otherwise.

Napolitano is in serious need for a drug abuse checkup because even I don't think she believes what she's saying. It seems like the Obama administration is a breeder of liars.

If this is true, why did they give protection to the new police chief that came here for asylum.

From CNSnews.com article today: you can read it here: http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/napolitano-warns-police-chiefs-about-evo
According to the DHS Web site, “State and major urban fusion centers serve as focal points within the state and local environment for the receipt, analysis, gathering, and sharing of threat-related information between the federal government and state, local, tribal, territorial (SLTT) and private sector partners.”

“Located in states and major urban areas throughout the country, fusion centers are uniquely situated to empower front-line law enforcement, public safety, fire service, emergency response, public health, CIKR protection, and private sector security personnel to understand local implications of national intelligence, thus enabling local officials to better protect their communities,” according to DHS.

“We have now established baseline criteria for all fusion centers,” Napolitano told the IACP. “We have now surveyed all fusion centers to see whether they meet that baseline criterion.”

“What they are designed to do is to facilitate the information gathering and sharing process back and forth as I described for terrorism, tactics, techniques, [and] behaviors,” she said, “but also other crimes, trans-national crime in particular. And we also have found that you can use them for other hazards as well,” such as pandemics and industrial accidents, she added.

My question is, what a “fusion center”?

HTH

A fusion center is a terrorism prevention and response center, many of which were created under a joint project between the Department of Homeland Security and the US Department of Justice’s Office of Justice Programs between 2003 and 2007.

The fusion centers gather information not only from government sources, but also from their partners in the private sector.[1][2]

They are designed to promote information sharing at the federal level between agencies such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Department of Justice, US Military and state and local level government. As of July 2009[update], the Department of Homeland Security recognized at least seventy-two fusion centers.[3] Fusion centers may also be affiliated with an Emergency Operations Center that responds in the event of a disaster.

State and local police departments provide both space and resources for the majority of fusion centers. The analysts working there can be drawn from DHS, local police, or the private sector. A number of fusion centers operate tip hotlines and also invite relevant information from public employees, such as sanitation workers or firefighters.[4]

I don't know about fusion centers but here's what Arizona’s Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu has to say about Napolitano and it's not complimentary:

Thanks. I never heard of these centers before and wondered how they might be used. Being skepticle (just like our government), I always look at how things may or can be used when the coin gets flipped. There’s no doubt that we are living in some strange times.

I feel like the government is becoming so paranoid that it is looking at us citizens as more of a threat than the real threats that are out there. What a different place this has become. Sigh.....

Not to preach; Napolitano being nutz or an idiot only fits that she probably thinks she can sell such a foolish lie, thus she's a liar. If the American people weren't so gullible our government wouldn't be so filled with liars. If the Obozo declared that water isn't wet, I'm sure there are some Americans that would believe him. I believe firmly that a politician who lies to gain favor from the public is not free speech, it is deception and that person should be a prosecuted. Instead of holding them to account we Americans elevate the politician thus fostering the spread of greed and corruption. That just may be part of why this country is in the mess it's in.
