I agree 100%. The EPA and BLM are prime examples.

1983 to present, retired since 2005 but haven’t stopped noticing the encroachments.

I could give you a several-page dissertation about the evolution of LE encraohments on the BOR, but I don’t think that’s necessary. There are many casualties of these encroachments, not the least of which are due process and genuine victims.

Suffice it to say that justice is becoming more scarce, not less scarce, as the LE bureaucracies grow in response to the politically correct special interests of “minorities” and leftist rule, and what little justice there is doesn’t always take place in a courtroom. ;)

I’m not a young man. I’m a woman nearing 60, so you only have one decade on me. Don’t make more of it than it is because once you pass about 45-50 it’s the quality, not additional quantity, of experiences that found our knowledge base and inform our opinions. But it’s good to see a man of your age have such a high opinion of himself, and you have my sincerest gratitude for your service. My husband also served, as did my brother.

Neither of them continue to try to dine out on their years of service, using it as immunity from responsible, critical thinking or as a bludgeon to try to shut up other people who have valuable experience and observations in the field of endeavor under discussion. They don’t even try to use it as a kryptonite or asbestos suit to protect them from dissenting opinions coming from people with decades of experience with a unique, insider’s perspective that they cannot possibly have in the field under discussion. In other words, having served in the military does not give you cover for being a close-minded asshole.

... having served in the military does not give you cover for being a close-minded asshole.

Thank you!

I just moved to the AFRH in Gulfport, MS. I have encountered a number of CMA's! Fortunately, the vast majority are not. They have an average ago here of 85. At 63, I am the new kid on the block. There are more of us "youngsters" coming, though.

I had lunch with some WW2 Waves, and a bunch of Submariners yesterday. Most of them went to the Commissioning of the Arlington in Pascagoula. Most of them were glad to see Rumsfeld's wife do the honors... and loved to hear from him.

But, there is always one... CMA! He just went for the shrimp and salmon!

BTW, if any readers are a Veteran of any service, they have full service for you here. You do not have to stay here full time, but can come and go for months at a time. As long as you can walk in, they will take care of you until... They have a "memory care" unit and all you can eat chow lines. We even have a bowling alley and bocci.

I understood what you meant - that I was presenting an unreasonable or irrational justification for the officer’s actions.

What I have for you are three sets of facts:

1). Until the citizenry fire all cops, arm themselves and take full responsibility for their safety with no reliance on government for it, there will be cops. As long as we’re putting them out there and on the spot at the front lines, they have the right to protect themselves just as you do. The question is, what will we authorize them to do? How tightly will we insist they adhere to the BoR? We have let this slip more and more by allowing municipal governments to use the cops as revenue collectors and harrassing this group or that group for political reasons instead of just catching bad guys and keeping the young thugs at bay.

2). Police powers and their scope of duties are increasing as a function of leftist control. There is a mega-list of violations of constituional protections committed by cops against upstanding citizens perceived as white, middle or upper class because they are not part of the politically correct victim class. They get crapped on daily by the cops, especially if they’re thought to own firearms. This will worsen as the left escalates the war between public unions and taxpayers.

3) The example of the basketball players was not a good one as far as police crossing the line. First, blacks are far more prone to gun violence against cops than whites are. In fact, there is currently an unspoken war against cops by blacks. If it was your behind out there and you were intimately aware of the black vs. cop dynamic these days, you’d view it a 6’6” black with dreadlocks differently. Also, the suspect was detained very briefly, was not roughed up, released immediately and apologized to. He’s a huge guy and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He did not “suffer” and he is NOT a victim. There are much better, genuine examples of authoritarian and/or abusive police practices to be had. This was child’s play, lighter than lightweight.

If you want to see really serious, egregious examples, look closely at the Duke lacrosse case and many other cases originating at universities,

Until people take responsibility for themselves... You know, while I have often found myself frustrated by my perception of an individual cops behavior I have always believed that my problem with “cops” really lay with my problem with society. An example: I work hard so my wife can take responsibility for my children's education. We opted out. We homeschool. I fire my 9mm every chance I get so I have the necessary muscle memory to protect myself and my family. I don't want to outsource that function to politicians either. I believe that when you give up individual prerogatives of self defense or education or what have you, a citizen necessarily trades away some personal sovereignty. That is where I get “sideways” with the whole fing village. My fellow citizens look at me as though I am Ted Kadzenski for saying and acting on those beliefs. I get very frustrated with individual Police when I see them swaggering about with full societal sanction running unconstitutional DUI checkpoints or shaking down groups of teenagers (no angels) at the bus stop. You are right in saying that people don't take responsibility for themselves and put the burden on society. It is THE reason that policing as a profession has lost the respect of the same society that demands it do more.

I've never been so insulted in my life and I sincerely thank you for your erudite response which has given me great pause to consider your reply. It's refreshing, and quite rare, to see a ULEO displaying intelligence and dignity.

So you see, I'm not entirely close-minded.

However, I'm still an a$$hole, so here's your special FR badge to wear with grace, dignity and honor which you so valiantly display as a retired ULEO.

FReegards,
Z
