Jake Tapper: Today’s Questions for Obama's White House
ABC News ^ | March 25, 2011 | by Jake Tapper

TAPPER: GE paid no taxes last year. Given that the CEO of GE is the head of the president's competitiveness and jobs council, I'm wondering if you have any thoughts on their paying no taxes last year.

CARNEY: I hope so. But the -- look, I -- Jake, I'll just tell you.

TAPPER: Front page of The New York Times.

CARNEY: But I -- but I can -- I've read the story. The president has said that he is committed to corporate tax reform.

TAPPER: Does it bother him?

CARNEY: I haven't spoken to the president about this.

TAPPER: Why appoint to the head of the competitiveness and jobs council a person who is now the poster child for using the system to get out of paying taxes?

CARNEY: The job council and competitiveness council is designed for just that.

TAPPER: But is there a perception problem at all for the president? He says he wants to take on this issue, and yet --

CARNEY: He very much wants to take on this issue.

TAPPER: It's the second year in a row that GE didn't pay any taxes, and yet he appoints the CEO to the head of his competitiveness and jobs council is -

CARNEY: I think the issue, Jake, is --

TAPPER: -- that the American people --

CARNEY: No, because the president is very committed to addressing this issue.

TAPPER: So much so that he puts the CEO of GE at the head of the Jobs and Competitiveness Council?

CARNEY: Look, I think, you know, Jake, we can do this five or six times, but he is committed to corporate tax reform...

Imagine for a second Bush being chummy with some corporate big wig, nominating to lead some committee.

Then finding out the company made billions, and paid ZERO in U.S. taxes.

The left would be calling for criminal investigation, special prosecutors. Etc.

This guy Carney knows the drill. “I...I...”, “well, you see...” “I’m not an expert in light bulbs...”, “I’ve never been a CEO of an electric company...”

Or better yet, why didn’t he bring up GM in the same light? They have no tax bill for several years because of the same bunch. We bail them out, screw the bond holders and give almost half of the damned thing to the unions to screw up even more.

It is amazing how many people I talk to have no idea this is going on.

Tapper with his selective hard balls. With so much to choose from, why take the GE issue at hand? He’s got BC, debt, commie ties, constant vacations, Wright, Obamacare, Wisconsin union thugs, union thugs in general and on and on.

I guess the GE thing is SO glaring that Tapper already discussed this with the kenyan and they decided this would be a hardball issue. Probably pre-scripted with Carney.

Carney’s bumbling and ineptness is astonishing, not unlike his boss. Thanks for posting.

Remember how the MSM ranted and raved about Dick Cheney and his alleged connection with Haliburton? Where’s the outrage now?

“Who is Obama’s “Hypocrisy Czar”?”

Far too big of a job for any one person to handle in this administration. LOL.

It never ceases to amaze me — the brazen lies and deception that flow like water from the White House and the willing lapdogs in the media that suck it up and regurgitate it. Talk about mindless robots parroting the party line!

Note to American MSM: In Nazi Germany, Propaganda Minister Goebbels at first had to hold guns to the heads of German media outlets to force cooperation. For the American MSM, they come whimpering to their masters begging for the latest lies to spread to the gullible masses. And the MSM wonders WHY they have increasing credibility issues?

I don’t think that corporations should pay taxes with the exception of local property taxes. I think people (employees and shareholders) should be taxed but in fair ways.

As far as GE is concerned Immelt is a looter in an Atlas Shrugged kind of way.
