GAO Report Outlines Individual Mandate Alternatives (Even after Supremes, Commiecare™ can survive)

GAO Report Outlines Individual Mandate Alternatives
by Wes Barrett | March 25, 2011

A new report from the Government Accountability Office suggests the federal health care law could hold together even if the Supreme Court strikes down the individual mandate.

The report, requested by Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., makes clear that the mandate is critical to the health care policy-without it, Americans with health insurance would be on the hook for an estimated $57 billion to cover increasing numbers of uninsured people.

But the report lists alternatives that could potentially hold the health care law intact if the Supreme court rules against the individual mandate.

It suggests modifying insurance open enrollment periods and imposing late fees, expanding employer input in facilitating health insurance enrollment and auto-enrollment, conducting a public education and outreach campaign and providing broad access to personalized health insurance enrollment assistance. The authors of the report wouldn't endorse any of the options saying only that they were possibilities that were discussed in drafting the report.

"Washington needs to explore the GAO report's alternatives and others to see if there is a successful way to improve health reform," Nelson said in a statement.

The Congressional Budget Office has reported that without an individual mandate, the current health care law would lead to 16 million more uninsured people and would cost those who do have insurance between 15 and 20 percent more for their premiums.

Well then, how do Americans go about getting a waiver to exempt themselves from Commiecare? Do you have to be a union thug and card carrying Commie DemocRAT?

Clearly, there are some who argue that the law lacks a severability clause. That means if one part is bad, it’s all bad and therefore non-enforceable.
That pretty much makes this a threat by the left. It’s give us our way or we will regulate around the law, again.
Progressive-ectomy is the only sure cure.

Interesting plan..........

Why not obtain a job as an SEIU worker, with the intent of getting fired or experiencing some sort of qualifying event for dismissal from your job. Then you are still an SEIU union member and will be able to glean as much intel as possible and opt out of obammacare.

Meaningless drivel by a lib trying to make the dispirited Left feel better. According to Nelson, if we “do this that and a few other things. there MIGHT be a way around having the law fail after the mandate is found to be unconstitutional by the USSC”

Fact, without the provision to force everyone to buy healthcare the cost of the bill when made public will cause such a howl among the people who see their premiums jump 20%. that the whole debacle will stop dead in it’s tracks.

Remember all those liberal senators up for re election? They see the handwriting on the wall.

Not so. If the SCOTUS strikes down the mandadte it strikes down the entire bill as there is NO severability clause in it.

2012 A new Congress, a new ‘R’ President must unite, and kill this beast once and for all. It’s the only way to go.

Once it is staked through the heart, then on to other Leftist, Socialist diseases infecting the Republic.

Lots of work ahead.
