Forging a new path forward to ensure safe, affordable and sustainable human exploration beyond low Earth orbit, Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] today unveiled the first Orion spacecraft and a spacious state-of-the-art Space Operations Simulation Center (SOSC). they created an ah rocket but it does have a cool bail out feature
I thought the Constellation program got canceled?
March 21st, 2011
I guess not?
It was canceled, but my guess is the funding was already there through this fiscal year (ends Sept.30), so Lockheed is fulfilling its contract requirements, along with keeping jobs alive for six more months.
It is continuing to get funded in each of the continuing resolutions.

Thanks for the report Flavius. Nice...
well its nice they have bail out capability
I believe that the Aries launch rocket was canceled, but Orion is still functioning.
My daughter is a systems engineer for Orion and she is still working. As of yesterday! :-)
Thanks for that. There is hope.
Looks like she’ll keep working as long as the reps with NASA facilities in their states and districts keep the heat on. I sure hope so.
Under the Obama Administration, I think their plan is to turn it into a mosque.
Or maybe sell it to China...
The Orion was kept to serve the ISS. However, it has other uses, and Lockheed Martin is showing what they can be.
Looks like an Apollo command module.
It’s a little bigger than that. I believe there’s two decks. Flight deck with similar kinds of seating as Apollo, but roomier and can hold more folks.
I agree.
Sounds like you are not totally behind this effort. If that’s not accurate I’m sorry.
Would you have preferred another route to achieving these goals?
Do you think these goals are worth striving for?
