How Long Will U.S. Forces be Involved in Libya? White House Says Nobody Knows

March 27, 2011 8:41 AM

The United States has been at war in Afghanistan for almost ten years, at war in Iraq for almost eight years and at war in Libya for nine days.

On “This Week,” ABC News’ Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper asked Secretary of Defense Gates how much longer we might be there.

“Some NATO officials say this could be three months, but people in the Pentagon think it could be far longer than that. Do you think we'll be gone by the end of the year? Will the mission be over by the end of the year?” Tapper asked

“I don't think anybody knows the answer to that,” Gates said.

If this kind of stuff keeps up, Hillary will run against the “absentee-Commander-in-Chief” by claiming she was the one taking all those 3 a.m. calls which he was being Vacationer-in-Chief.

It will be days, not weeks. We will not have boots on the ground. That’s what Obama said and he always tells us the whole truth. Did I mention, John Kerry served in Vietnam?

Obama's actions while president, especially since January, 2011 point to the very real possibility that he will not seek the democrat party nomination.

I think he's had it and I think his wife has had it as well. His wife will not tolerate the possibility of another 4 years in Washington. That being said, I think most clear headed observers know that almost any republican opponent would wipe the floor with Obama in the 2012 general.

I beg to differ...Obama craves power and will not give it up without a fight.

Yes-from the slime infested mouth of our president came the words to our nation regarding the length of our involvement. He said, and oh gag me, let me CLEAR on this, "days not weeks-and NO BOOTS on the ground"

Idiot.

Er, has it been ' days' yet?

Don’t rule out the stupid party foisting another McCain on us to ruin that chance.

Please, anyone, correct me if I am wrong, but is it not in our interest for Ghaddafi to prevail here and wipe out the rebels?

The Rebels are largely Al Queda or Muslim Brotherhood. The best thing is to let these two factions hammer it out.

Prop up the rebels just enough so they can compete against Kaddaffee...and then there’s a protracted war.

I say we phase out slowly, and let Kidahfee fight these people for the next several months.....

Once the rebels take over they’ll tell us to f-off.....

it looks like the moslem brotherhood and al queda will

take advantage of the so-called “pro-democracy” movements

in arab countries.

american and european policies are helping this.

kosovo is an example.

Looks like we the US are slouching toward an entry strategy

It is laughable to be even asking these idiots about their exit strategy

I predict the Libyan “rebels” are going to turn out to be the taliban redux..... except with rolexes and twitter

Exactly. If there are not peace keepers there, the rebels if they take over, will slaughter the other side...

Syria is really the key here and what happens there.

I’d like to see the opposition take the ruler there are big time....Let them fight it out...

All in all, unless the West is in some control, I see Egypt, Libya, Syria and Iran all attacking Israel....

And it will come sooner than later....

The only way they come out ahead this time is through their nukes....

I wonder what range the Israeli nukes can hit, assuming they have them on their subs also...

No real reason to go in when we did, no coherent plan to prosecute the war, and no goal to declare victory and leave.

It’s the way a community antagonizer operates.
