How Long Will U.S. Forces be Involved in Libya? White House Says Nobody Knows

March 27, 2011 8:41 AM

The United States has been at war in Afghanistan for almost ten years, at war in Iraq for almost eight years and at war in Libya for nine days.

On “This Week,” ABC News’ Senior White House Correspondent Jake Tapper asked Secretary of Defense Gates how much longer we might be there.

“Some NATO officials say this could be three months, but people in the Pentagon think it could be far longer than that. Do you think we'll be gone by the end of the year? Will the mission be over by the end of the year?” Tapper asked

“I don't think anybody knows the answer to that,” Gates said.

What happens then?

Obama gets re-elected. The poster was indicating the date that a Republican (conservative?) president would be sworn in, but this country is too far gone.

I think your timing is off.

Probably earlier.

Israel will probably be attacked in early December and will hold out until the war peaks Dec 21(?), 2012.

at which point, America will be annihilated.

I think that is a far safer bet... I am siding with the accuracy of Ezekiel. Besides, there are others who bet on that same date.

“Obama’s actions while president, especially since January, 2011 point to the very real possibility that he will not seek the democrat party nomination.”

Obama served his purpose for the “One World Government” party. He will retire a multi-billionaire and will do University speaking tours to promot the One World Government solution.

This couldn’t have been scripted any better. Question is, who will be the first Conservative Supreme Court justice to suffer Arkancide. Because without a LIberal court, the Commies cannot take our guns away. And without the guns, they cannot control us.

Don’t rule out the stupid party foisting another McCain on us to ruin that chance.

Yep.

This will be Vietnam all over. Mission creep for something, whatever that is, we shouldn’t be doing.

is it not in our interest for Ghaddafi to prevail here and wipe out the rebels?

It's in our interest to step aside and let the civil war happen as it happens. Unfortunately the administration went off half-cocked and may be on the wrong side of things. If they realize this, it might explain why Obama claims Gaddafi remaining in power as an acceptable outcome.

More likely he's just afraid to be seen as calling for regime change which he effectively did a month ago. He's boxed himself in and putting us all at risk with his incompetence.

I hope not. The signs aren't too encouraging. When first announced our role was going to be limited to logistical support for the French & UK. Right away that was tossed out. We were the "tip of the spear" with tomahawks and B-2 bombing runs.

The world isn’t as stoopid as this administration seems to think they are.

We are absolutely running the show. Logistics, Marine Radar, AWACS, Satellite, Telemetry, Special Forces for Lazing, Cruise missiles(which reminds me, I need to purchase stock in companies that replenish used stores).

There’s more and I’m sure we could spend all day listing them but suffice it say the “Zerolition” with their meager contributions can’t effect any change nor affect the outcome without the tremendous number of assets we bring to armed conflict.

A question for anyone with knowledge. Serious!

FOX has shown a couple of talking head retired Colonel/Lt Colonel's who insist there are "boots on the ground in Libya" to provide laser designation on targets. Now, I'm not a weapons 'spert and don't claim to be. But my understanding of modern smart weapons (guided bombs, cruise missiles, whatever) is that they have GPS/inertial/map-following/terrain-following and other guidance systems that can put the weapon within a few feet of bullseye without need for laser guidance. Also that most modern aircraft that launch laser-guided weapons have their own onboard laser designators.

Are we being fed BS, or more likely, is my understanding of smart weapons completely screwy?

The conflict in Libya will last until it is no longer of use to the left, after our force has been sufficiently weakened and more of our best and bravest have been killed off.

Impeach now!
