Record freezes and a fearsome drought have failed to kill off the Burmese pythons that have colonized the Everglades.
Six of the non-native, constricting snakes were found last week in sections of the Everglades in which they had not turned up before, including an area north of Alligator Alley, according to the South Florida Water Management District. This further dashed hopes by scientists that the past winter's cold weather could kill off the snakes, which are native to the warmer climate of southern Asia.

We’re gonna need a bigger mongoose!
Maybe we can send some Progressives down there!
Wonder what Python tastes like?
Open season, no tags required, paid bounty.
Sometimes man has to do what Mother Nature can’t.
“Wonder what Python tastes like?”
Tastes like Boa.
They are hard to find and its a pretty inaccessible place. Full of other kinds of snakes as well.
Snakes have been on this planet for millions of years. You’d think the idiot media would realize it’s probably not their first freeze.
Pythons are not a native species in Florida. They don’t tolerate the cold well.
I’m more worried about the exotic snakes which have gotten free. Things like Black Mamba’s.
start a fire and kill them when they cross the roads
Dunno, but the hides are worthy something, they’re an exotic leather.
Put a bounty on them. Bounties are cheap for the results they produce. In this case, say $300 for every python head brought in, with a python hunting license to insure they know where the pythons are, how to hunt them, where they can’t hunt them, and an insurance premium for any unintentional damages they may commit.
I’d even issue a “reporting” bounty, of say, $20, if you use a cellphone to call in the location of a python, based on the GPS of your phone, then the closest hunter is called to bag it. Once he does, he gets the $300, and you get $20.
“start a fire and kill them when they cross the roads”
Funny, I’ve never heard of a raging “swamp fire” before.
Not to mention there aren’t many roads in the everglades
We had some bad fires in the gread dismal swamp and some swampy areas down in NC a few years ago. The smoke was real bad and when the wind was blowing towards the Tidewater area were we live it was just too terrible to go outside.
Does it ever get below fifty degrees in South Asia?
How's that globalization go'in fer ya? Killer bees, killer fish, etc.
It depends where the pythons are when it freezes. If they are in a burrow or under a house, they may get cold, but they won’t freeze. If they are caught out in the open, then they will certainly die.
Exactly. Pay one dollar per foot of snake.
