Yemen battles al Qaeda as president clings to power (and Obama sides with Al-Qaeda)

Fighting between Yemeni security forces and members of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula has left people on both sides dead over the past two days, Yemeni security forces said.

The reports came as President Ali Abdullah Saleh has been fighting to hold onto power, arguing that he is best equipped to lead the fight against Islamists.

Three "al Qaeda terrorists were killed" and six others were arrested in Lawdar district, Yemen's official news agency Saba reported Saturday.

On Sunday, seven Yemeni soldiers were killed and seven others were wounded when members of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula attacked them in Mareb, two security officials said. The attack took place at a military checkpoint a mile north of the government complex in Mareb province, east of the capital, Sanaa.

The attackers also used grenades and machine guns, and took two military vehicles from the checkpoint, the security forces said.

After the fighting Saturday, the Yemeni government said it was a sign that strong measures are needed to combat instability within the country. Saba reported that Governor Saleh al-Zawari of Abyan province affirmed "the importance to enhance security performance to strictly confront any attempts to disturb security and stability in the governorate."

I think it's important to keep in mind that one reason Saleh is in such a pickle is because of the Wikileak's scandal. Saleh got caught lying to his people about the kind of cooperation he was giving the US as it directly relates to Al-Qaeda.

He said we weren't bombing Al-Qaeda targets within Yemen's borders. The leaked cables say quite clearly that we were (and probably still are).

This is the greatest evidence thus-far that Bradley Manning's actions have jeopardized America's national security and has given direct aid and comfort to our enemies in a time of war. One of our allies is going to be overthrown in either bloody or bloodless war, in no small part to these leaked cables. If that's not Treason, I don't know what is.

"Don’t lie to your people."

You understand that a good percentage of "his people" are either Islamic Jihadists, or overwhelmingly support Islamic Jihadists, right? What West Hollywood is for homosexuals, Yemen is for people looking to get into Islamic jihad.

If we can't find and do business with Arab states leaders (like Saleh) who will help us, either overtly or covertly, in the destruction of terror cells operating in their own country, we might as well fold up shop and call it a day, because we're doomed.

Don't forget Libya:
The Libyan Fighting Group LIFG is the bases of the rebels. Sheikh Attiyatallah is the second in command of Al Quada he is from Libya. al-Zawahiri stated that the LIFG is affiliated with his organization.

Why are we arming Al Qaeda?

"I thank God for Wikileaks publication with so much more to come. Transparency is good."

Wow, what a painfully idiotic statement. Breathtaking, really.

I suppose you lament the fact that the cables between the US and the UK at the height of the Cold War didn't find their way into the hands of Brezhnev et. al?

What is even more in more in this particular instance is that we want cooperation from leaders who are located in parts of the world that generally unfriendly to the US To secure such cooperation, those leaders HAVE to believe those confidential discussions and agreements won't be leaked for the world to read. If not, we see relatively friendly leaders - like Saleh - give way for more militant Islamic leadership.

I'm sorry you're not smart enough to understand it.

"With all the commuists in the State Department,in other sensitive areas in the United States, and in Britian. I don’t doube that the ones that the Soviets wanted to see, they did."

I'm sure that may be true. But, in the instances where federal laws were broken when spies successfully breached US national security, I don't remember anyone - on the left or the right - cheer-leading those crimes.

Wikileaks, is a whole other kettle of fish. Some people, like the guy I was responding to, seem to think it's great. I think it's a danger to national security, and that it has already created problems that has certainly compromised US national security and jeopardized overseas interests, and may have already lead to the deaths of American service members.

I agree with your lastr paragraph sentene for sentence. The sobs that hate this Country, despiote how good it has been to them, in my opinion, should either leave for another Country of their choive or be deported. And in anyone advocating for another form of government other than what the Founders envisioned, i.e. Communism, Socialism, mohammadism, should be hung from telephone poles.

Transparency is good.

Sometimes it is. But sometimes it gets good people killed and diminishes our ability to work with allies. That's why it can't be decided by Bradley Manning or the French dude (forgot his name).

This is the real action. Obama has waited long enough in Libya to tie down our military and provide cover for AQ taking control of a country on the Saudi Peninsula.

This is the best indication of his intentions I have seen. The charge is high treason.
