The money-no-object Metropolitan Police had helicopters whirring non-stop over Central London during today’s mass hallucination (they’re still overhead as I write), but, as usual, not a lot of competent policing on the ground. As is their wont, they did little to prevent property damage – or the general intimidation of visitors to the capital by so-called “anarchists” (an odd term for pro-government welfare-funded thugs).

Who, in a spiritually, morally and financially exhausted, society could give a satisfactory answer to the thuggish rejoinder?
Apparently no one in authority can so in effect they shrug and say, “Carry on, old chap, carry on. Sorry to have bothered you.”

In honor of "Earth Hour" we kept drilling. No riots, no mayhem, just making hole.
Steyn is quite serious today. The riots in London sound really bad, and he is right. The downfall of the West isn’t going to be pretty.
People can riot to insist that blood can be gotten out of a stone, but the blood will never be forthcoming.
I see the SEIU truly is international, at least in spirit if not in instigators.
When I was watching the videos, I was shocked by the cops just standing around, seemingly doing nothing. My husband - as usual - told me I was imagining things. It’s good to be affirmed in this belief by Mark Steyn, who happened to be in the great city of London at the time.
This story really hurts me. This is the center of the West End - home to thousands of tourists, theatres, bookstores, hotels, department stores (Lillywhite’s) and fine museums and churchs (I’m thinking of the pretty little St. James Church in Piccadilly.) There are also dozens of small businesses in the area. Mr. Steyn says they were damaged. Infuriating!

but the major driving motivation is “to matter”.
Their lives are empty, their minds have taken them down the path of materialism (ie, the Carl Sagan religion of Cosmos), and they see nothing, they see nihilism. Their lives don’t matter a bit in this worldview, so “saving the erf” is their way of mattering in the big scheme.
Also, for a lot of leftists, it gives them the sense of superiority they so desperately seek to affirm. They’re “better than you” because they care about the erf and you don’t.
