Boese makes a simple and convincing argument for dropping high speed rail.

But wait: the author concedes this train will save the average passenger 3 minutes and cost $100 more than the fully loaded cost of driving. Thus, for individuals whose time is worth more than $2000 an hour, the high speed train is clearly cost-beneficial.

Why should any taxpayers object to subsidizing high speed rail for this group of individuals? Is it really reasonable to expect such individuals to be able to pay for their own high speed train service? Shouldn’t we put the “public interest” ahead of our greedy private selfish interests?

For the price of these high speed rail routes, it would be cheaper to blow taxpayer’s money by giving everyone who even thought about using that route to go places a new American car. That would at least subsidize Omama Motors and his union voters would have paying jobs. Oops, I may have given him another suggestion to put us further into debt.

the next phase of the so called Chicago to St Louis High Speed Rail project. The new $1.2 billion phase is to run from Bloomington, IL to Dwight IL, a distance of 58.5 miles of what could only be described as the "Billion Dollar Train to Nowhere."

$ 1.2 billion covers the lobby of the station in Bloomington. Maybe.

Plus, nobody is going to pay 132 bux for a 76 mile train ride so taxpayers will most likely subsidize $100 of that.

High speed rail, the gift that keeps on taking...your money.

When are the people that think of this crap going to realize that we have a large, large country. It is built on the basis of being able to move from one place to another, at your own pace, and schedule.

You cannot run a rail from Chicago to St Louis and then stop a bunch of times. That is simply not convenient enough to pay for.

Imagine if you had 4 people in the car, you would save $400 per trip!

(do they really think we are all that stupid?)

heh heh heh

Heaven forbid that it’s built I shudder to think of the hundreds of millions in taxpayer money flushed down the toilet every year to keep it running.

It’s really quite simple.

Liberals are not deep thinkers.

Repeat after me.

Liberals are not deep thinkers.

I guaran-damn-tee you that most of these idjits took a trip to Europe or Japan and rode the neato trains there and said to themselves - gee wouldn’t this be nice to have in the good ole USA - without giving a moment’s thought to why the two situations are not directly comparable.

No one in their right mind would pay that kind of money for that length trip so the fares would have to be subsidized.

I’m lobbying the government for a High-Speed Stagecoach. We’ll use racehorses and those new low-friction tires. I figure about $30 billion ought to cover it.

“The mystery remains; why is the current administration so obsessed with the delusion of high speed rail for America, and at staggering costs?”

1. Allocate (steal) US taxpayer's money to a “project”.
2. Disperse the money to unions and Democrat campaigns.
3. When “project” fails, claim enough money was not allocated.
4. Goto 1.

We see this over and over.
