The information about the debris arriving in one year was on the local (Portland) news tonight, provided by an oceanographer at Oregon state University. It is supposed to cycle, with debris coming ashore for 3 to 5 years.
The informationis based on a study of an ocean container of Nike shoes that fell overboard and worked their way ashore.
If I remember there was some sort of networking where people tried to hook up pairs of the right size.

If that is right and the debris is now radioactive, who knows how many will be injured by this stuff. Taking care of the stuff was a possibility before the reactors opened up but not now.
