Self-righteousness is a dangerous vice. It breeds arrogance and moral blind spots for those who come to believe they are superior to those who share different worldviews.
Televangelists have fallen prey to this feeling of superiority, until the time they are caught crawling on the ground outside a hookers hotel room. Politicians have also wallowed in the grandiosity of their moralistic worldview, until they too fall prey to the hypocrisy that eventually snags all self-righteous moralizers. For a decade now, we have been told of George W. Bushs and Dick Cheneys moral failings. They have been regularly compared to Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini and every other tyrant of the past century. Bush has been damned by the ministers of the far left as a war criminal, a fascist and a Nazi when labeling his policies as overly ideological and deeply flawed would have sufficed.
But that was never enough for the carnival barkers on cable news or the blogosphere. For the American left, Bush had to be condemned as an immoral beast who killed women and children to get his bloody hands on Iraqi oil.
That extremism required that the Bush years be filled with images of CODEPINK protesting on Capitol Hill, anti-war activists clogging the streets of New York City and left-wing commentators beating their chests with the self-righteous indignation of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker.
But in the morally murky afterglow of the Obama years, the certainty of these secular saints has melted away.
President Barack Obama bowed to his generals demands by tripling troops in an unending war. CODEPINK did nothing.
Obama backed down on Guantanamo Bay. Anti-war protesters stayed at home.

I actually respect her. Don’t agree with her at all politically. But at least she has a sense of integrity, which is rare these days for any political player.
You know you’re a liberal in trouble when the Politico turns on you....
Visually impaired squirrel, nut.
I swear i live in parallel universe.
I’d have a smidgen of respect for the anti war crowd if they were genuinely ‘anti war’.
This is all about power, always has been and always will be for the ‘progressives’.
Obama supports all abortions all the time, under all circumstances.
Obama opposes all capitalism, all religious freedoms and all western democratic ideals all the time, under all circumstances.
Presto. He can do no other wrong as far as a liberal is concerned.
Liberals have no morals.
The liberals go to war. Don’t ya just love it? Hypocrisy thy name is Codepink. lol!
“the anti-war left has been silent since Obama took office because they dont want to hurt the presidents reelection chances.”
So attacking or supporting a war is based essentialy on political expedience-suspicions confirmed.
The issue for democrats is very simple...
It’s about their domestic agenda.
It’s about who gets or stays in power, because, whoever is in power gets to set policy on the most important aspect of the government, and that is the domestic agenda.
When it comes to a republican with a strong foreign policy, and when it comes to wars supported by republicans, the democrats will attack those republicans, because, it’s a way to try to get those republicans “voted” out in the next election cycle. And they need those republicans out in order to be able to implement their domestic agenda. So, democrats will sacrifice our foreign policy for their domestic agenda.
When it comes to Obama and foreign policy and unpopular wars, the democrats will again sacrifice their credibility on those issues in order to try to maintain the power represented by a democratic party president. The president staying in power is more important to their agenda than their credibility on foreign policy.
It’s all about the domestic agenda, and everything else is just a nuisance which they’ll overlook or take hypocritical positions on, because, the way they see it, most people don’t really care about foreign policy and they don’t pay attention to foreign matters anyway, and are more concerned with how to get by on a daily basis here at home.
Foreign policy, and matters of war, are just useful to democrats as leverage in order to try to get a democrat into office, and having conflicting and/or hypocritical positions on foreign matters is inconsequential to them.
This article makes me nostalgic for the days, long ago, when Joe Scarborough was a conservative.
