I didn't see a </sarcasm> tag so I'm not sure if you are joking or really that naïve.
First of all, we are not a collective yet so speaking collectively of "we sell them ____" and "they sell us ____" is absurd. Some people make their money in oil, others make their living from selling food. To unilaterally say that whole segments of economic production are forbidden by reason of some brain-dead notion that there is a limited amount of oil and food stops growing forever at some point is, again, absurd.
Present reality says that few people in the Middle East are accumulating great wealth from the selling of oil. Your comment makes it sound like you are the sheiks' PR man in that you want to discourage oil development anywhere so that they can maintain a virtual monopoly of oil money at the expense of our sovereignty and national security. That is anti-American thinking.
Whereas some there enjoy the oil money, ALL people need to eat. The sheiks, kings and dictators don't need billions to feed themselves when the oil runs out centuries from now. Everyone needs to eat now and tomorrow and thus we have been and will continue to give them food well past the time we are bankrupt and hungry ourselves.
Then there is the fact you have no idea when they will "run out" of oil and when we no longer produce enough food to give away. You can't even say for sure what the national boundaries of the world will even look like, or if there will be habitable middle east or America a few years from now. If you did know, then you would be wealthy beyond imagination from successful trading in the commodity futures market.
