I kind of miss the Glenn Beck radio show circa 2002, when he was telling us to wrap our heads in duct tape. Then there were the radio jingles like “Glenn Beck Hatemail”, “Just Another Isolated Incident”, “Arguments Against Idiots” (last year’s wailing chorus “The Bees Know” was pretty good), those two lovable terrorists “Kandahar and Jalalabad”, his frequent use of “the G-d voice” (does a great Soros, too).
There used to be a lot more of what El Rushbo calls lighthearted stuff. Now Glenn has gone messianic as the Cassandra of radio. His radio colloquies with his sidekicks are funny enough, but it’s not Glenn when he was flying solo with his liberal sock-puppet voice (”Well, that’s because you’re just a fattie fat fatso, Glenn”.
Oh well.
I agree he has gotten much more serious, and darker. Also-—and not just because I haven’t been on in a while-—he seems to have steered away from his regular history shows which I thought were quite popular.
Another GB jingle which I left out was the “martini music” bossa nova which Glenn would cue up whenever a seductive female voice came on the line (Oooooo...Glenn....I just love your showwwww...!)
It’s from a Laurindo Almeida album ca. 1967, BTW.
