In all my travels of this great country over the years. That experiment in Soviet life in America was hands down the scariest place I have ever been.
My wife and I helped teach Sunday School in Cabrini-Green in 1971. We were always met at the street by a no-nonsense black mom and escorted up to the apartment used for the class.
I’d been home from Vietnam about 18 months; Cabrini-Green felt like going on patrol, only without a weapon and with a wife. Strange feeling.
We never had any difficulty, though.
