RIVERTON Charges were filed Thursday in the St. Patricks Day shooting that took place in downtown Riverton not against the shooter, but against the man who was shot in the groin.
Zechariah Apodaca, 22, of Riverton was charged with domestic battery, property destruction and simple assault. The shooter was identified only as a 41-year-old man from Lander. Authorities refused to release his identity because hes been named a victim in the case against Apodaca.
In a media conference Wednesday afternoon at Riverton City Hall, Fremont County Attorney Brian Varn said the older man acted in self defense as Apodaca tried twice to grab his .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol. Varn said the older man had a license to carry the gun.
Varn went on to say the 44-year-old was acting as a good samaritan by trying to stop Apodaca from beating his girlfriend. The older man intervened as he walked out of the show with his family and saw Apodaca dragging the woman backward by her head and pants from the parking lot to the theater door. After telling Apodaca to stop, the 44-year-old warned he was armed.
A well placed shot, I’d say!
I usually stop, fuel up and chat with Riverton locals on the way up to camp/hike Spruce Knob. It’s really small and everybody seems knows everything about everybody else. Nice folks, though.
Wyoming has a surplus of common sense and a shortage of idiots. Just the opposite of Massachusetts.
Girlie is gonna be pissed.
Well, see now, next time you can ask them all about the prick who got shot in his, well....prick.
The girlfriend had best use this as a chance to make a permanent break with this guy. Chances are, though, all will be forgiven and the violence will continue.
I think it far more likely that the girlfriend will be blamed for the guy getting shot. She likely will accept the guilt in order to bring her "man" back into her life. It is sad, but it happens more often than not. As an aside, most people do not realize that domestic violence occurs about equally among men and women. Virtually all the credible studies show it. It is simply a "fact" that the cultural Marxists don't want the public to understand.
