Reid: Probe of Quran Burning Considered
Newsmax ^ | 4/3/2011 | Hiram Reisner

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says congressional lawmakers are discussing taking some action in response to the Koran burnings of a Tennessee pastor that led to killings at the U.N. facility in Afghanistan and sparked protests across the Middle East, Politico reports.

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Congress might need to explore the need to limit some forms of freedom of speech, in light of Tennessee pastor Terry Jones’ Quran burning, and how such actions result in enabling U.S. enemies.

Another poster said he’d burn a free Koran but he wouldn’t buy one to burn. I think I would - it just may show how ridiculous this entire episode is. I agree with a mass burning - who cares if they have to be purchsed first? It would be worth it!

Only the Arabic text is considered the "real" Quran. An English translation would not count. On that basis, going online, printing off a few pages of Arabic Quran text, and burning those pages would count as burning the Quran.

Here's a question: would printing off some pages of Quranic text, partially burning them so that part of the page is burnt but the unburnt part clearly identifies it as from the Quran, and then pasting the partially burnt pages to telephone poles in arab neighborhoods qualify as performance art? What are the chances of getting a grant for it?

Just hold it right there hoss. That's way too close to my grant application. I gots the partially burned arabic xerox of the quran rest atop nine cubic yards of camel.( That's one hump and two hump kind) dung soaked in gallons and gallons of genuine north African hyena urine, all dumped in front of local DNC offices all over the country.

Just a question of sifting through the thousands driver applications before I get that Ford Foundation grant.

Liberals like Reid and Graham are always looking for some excuse to limit free speech. We don’t have to do this to deal idiots like Terry Jones. “Freedom of speech” protects expression of ideas and does not protect incitement to riot of inflict harm.

These are the same RATS that are always crying “separation of church and state”. How can the U.S. Congress, by any stretch of the imagination, investigate the actions of a church?

It doesn’t take much to “incite” riots among Islamists. They’ll riot at the drop of a feather. They’re OVERBEARING! You think they’ll temper their insistence that all of us are to accept dhimmitude and bow to them? HELL NO! - The line in the sand is drawn. The sword of Islam STOPS at the shores of America! PC has sunk Europe. Obama can bow until his back breaks under the sword of Islam; but it’s unbecoming.

What someone needs to organize is a national “burn a Koran day”

Oh, just like they investigated Newsweek for writing that fake story on Koran burning that resulted in a riot that killed 19 people. That was okay since it was the media? Islam can kill all the Christians they want for whatever excuse and nary a peep. If those Muslims were so upset why then didn’t they riot and kill in Florida where it happened???

I actually had to go look to make sure this isn't an April 1st story. These numbskulls are actually considering action against/in response to a man who burned his own book??

Limit freedom of speech because it might irritate "the enemy"? I don't think so.

Any such move would be unconstitutional.

Tell that to GWB, who signed a similar measure designed to protect incumbant politicians into law.

Well, in Bush's defense, he said it was unconstitutional, too. Oh, wait....

But I'm sure that President Whoever, speaking ex cathedra from the See of CinC, will be able to deal with the problem. Such are the wonders of modern Constitutional theory.

The Incitement Test (Brandenburg)
“The constitutional guarantees of free speech and free press do not permit a State to forbid or proscribe advocacy of the use of force or of law violation except where such advocacy is directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and is likely to incite or produce such action.”

Let them pursue it, for in pursuing investigation and prosecution they prove the imminent dangers of islam.

This could all work in our favor if we frame it correctly. A person or culture can be provoked to violence by the burning of some book in another country...now...let them finally define the enemy of the United States of America.

July 4th is National Burn the koran day. I will buy one and burn a page a day. Maybe if we all plan to do it they will ban the sale of the koran. Also, owning a copy would save on some toilet paper expense.
