ALAMO - Sadness fills the home of the Valdez family. The loss of a loved one has them holding on to each other for strength in these trying times.
Elizabeth Vega is the younger sister of Robert Valdez, a man murdered in cold blood south of the border. Vega tells us her family is in unimaginable pain. She said, "They are distraught they can't believe it. They are still in shock."
Vega says her brother went to Mexico to visit a girlfriend. He was found stabbed 10 times; he was also run over by a car. Vega tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS she tried to warn her brother not to travel to Mexico. "We told him numerous times don't go, please don't go. You see that every hing's happening over there all these vehicles being stolen but he wouldn't listen."
She was notified about her brother's death early Saturday morning. She traveled to Reynosa to claim his body and have it transported back to the US. "We just want closure, justice." Vega said. She tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS her brother was a good man, the type of person that would take the shirt off his back to help a stranger.
She says she would never wish the pain and grief her family is feeling on anyone. She hopes her brother's story is a lesson to those who ignore the warnings. Vega said, "Just try to avoid going over there, there's no need to go over there. It's not worth losing your life."
“Family of Man Murdered in Reynosa Speaks”
See, now, if that were a San Antonio TV reporter, it’d say “...Speaks Out”. Not sure why, but 4, 5 and 12 all insist on characterizing this kind of interview (distraught family of person either without good sense or up to no good) as speaking OUT. I guess that’s more serious than speaking - you know, “in”...
Pet peeve? I think so.

Bttt.
Yes, but at least "speaking out" is somewhat sympathetic. If it's a conservative Republican who makes any type of statement or gives a response to an attack, they're said to be "lashing out".
